Vocals were overdubbed on the 4 track after lyrics were written.  It's not a masterpiece, but for what it is, it's magic.  Lloyd Benjamin played guitar, Rob McConologue played drums, Pete Normal played guitar and sang, and Jojo Paquin played bass and sang.  A couple months later, we played our only show, with Chopper on guitar(Lloyd had just been visiting), opening for Against Me.

Reform School Blues The Harmonic

When I was 18 I sang and played guitar in a band called Lazyboy, and the first song we wrote was a throw away pop punk novelty song written in attempt to win the affection of Winona Ryder. Little did I know people would end up liking the song, forcing us to keep it our set for the entirety of the band's existence. A friend recently asked to hear the song, so here it is! Listening to it 30+ years later, it's kind of fun I guess.

This was the final song performed by my post-high school band, Lazyboy.  It was a planned encore at our last show.  The line up for the show was Liam McNamara, Derek Myers, David Hannon, and me, along with Trent Johnson masterfully playing and programming the synths for this song.  It should be noted that my amplifier got unplugged in the midst of my big solo because someone was trying to fix the fog machine which had run out of juice.  Bummer!

Purple Rain by Lazyboy

Immediately following the break up my band, Lazyboy, in 1994, I began writing songs with Amanda Kelley (Team Dresch, Vegas Beat) for a new band.  The songs felt very much in the same vein as Lazyboy, but darker, more dynamic, and honestly more inspired.  We brought those songs to a band we confusingly named Pat Olson's Bionic Drop.  That band dissolved after about 6 months, and we immediately began writing songs together, despite butting heads as roommates. Our roommate and Amanda's partner Marceo (Calamity Jane, Vegas Beat, Pimp Slap, Creature to Creature)had recently left Team Dresch and had volunteered to be our drummer, and ultimately our harmony vocalist. Somehow they met Kyle House (Poison Idea, Defiance, Acephalix, Serpents of Dawn)and convinced him to play in our new band.  With songs already to go, and with an incredibly talented rhythm section, things came together quickly.  Once we had enough songs dialed to play a show, we got our pal Darius Lindell (Last Empire, Low Rent Souls)to record us on his 4-track in our basement.  For what we had to work with, I think it turned out great.   We played two shows, blew people away, and then abruptly and dramatically broke up the day before what would have been our 3rd show.  Despite the deterioration of the master tapes, the tenuous state of my mental health while writing these songs, and the unfortunate ending of the band, I'm happy to finally put this out to the world for others to hear. It's really some of my favorite output.
