A quite personal song what I wrote - but then aren't they all. Just me and my GD D'Aigle autoharp on this one.

Cuddle

This is the second, slow, movement of what I believe might be the first classical concerto written for autoharp and strings. The strings are midi I am afraid, but I play the autoharp, my GD Desert Rose by Pete D'Aigle throughout. The first movement is written and recorded, the third movement is well under way - but this movement may well stand on its own, so I am releasing it into the world a little prematurely. I hope you like it.

Concerto for Autoharp and Strings - Second Movement - Andante

I took it upon myself (!) to write a classical concerto in which the autoharp is the solo instrument against a string section. It is written for a GD diatonic autoharp, and I play it on my Pete D'Aigle Desert Rose. This first movement is Allegro - ma non troppo - and follows as closely as I can a sonata form. It contains the unusual instruction to an orchestral instrument - "Change lockbars here". It also contains a cadenza that I have not written, and that I know will be performed much better by someone who can actually play the autoharp. this should be listened to in conjunction with movements 2 and 3, to which it is related.

Concerto for Autoharp and Strings - 1st Movement Allegro

Trying to be positive. Also trying to be a bit more literary rather than literal. May or may not have succeeded, but I think I wrote a fine tune.

The Sun Still Rises

Another in a series based on my own artwork. I managed to steer this one towards HS2 as well! This is live vocal, live autoharp, and midi piano, cello and bass, written in Finale then exported to Cubase, so no Band in a Box this time.

The Oldest Tree

The latest in my series based on my own artwork. This picture was a bit different - some driftwood and stones, done in pencil only. So the "music" to go with it - I use the word loosely - has to be different as well. Definitely no autoharp in this one. Sampled sounds and spoken word. You will love it or hate it! Personally - not yet sure!

My version of the Flying Pickets version of Alison Moyet's version of this great Vince Clarke song. Only instrument is a drum. The other nine singers are all me.

Only You

One of a series based on my artwork. How do you write a song about a plant in a pot? Well, you don't. You write it about the person looking at the plant in the pot. No autoharp in this one, but I am playing the kalimba. And yes, it is in 7/8.

The latest in a series based on my own artwork. Castlerigg Stones are things of power and set in a landscape of beauty and wonder. I tried to capture some of that feeling in this track. Then I added electric guitar solos! All courtesy of Band in a Box!

Someone Else Can Save The World Today

An artist friend - Kate Clarke - whom I admire enormously, wrote a poem. Well, apparently she writes lots of poems, but this was the first I had seen. I liked the words 'cos they were - well - poetic! So I asked if I could set them to music. She said yes, and it took me all of 15 minutes because the structure was there already. So here it is - in E, on my single Key E D'Aigle autoharp.

After several examples of this recently, I had to write his song. But it is unusual for two reasons - it is, as near as I can tell, my 100th composition, and I actually started this around fifty YEARS ago! Well before t'internet! All Band in a Box.
