Hard hitting song Bob. Most songs like this come off as preachy or scolding and miss the mark. But this just really well done. I'm from the songwriters Review group. I'll leave a few production comments there.

Jesse was my son, and Bob is my friend and co-writer. This song is so therapeutic for me. it's my favorite one we've worked on together. Play your guitar my boy.

18 months ago in Virginia two young men were shot by an unknown gunman. 
They were airlifted out to the nearest hospital.
They were 19 years old and 22 years old, the 19 year old survived.
When Jesse the 22 year old went on his final journey from this earth his mother sent his guitar with him.
These are the words she wrote.
No one was ever convicted of the crime
