Cold Day in Hell was written about the coming year 2000 and how there was much hype about the end of the world. Funny, right? The "little goose egg who eats the world" (number zero). Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello) rocked the drums on this one. I remember him dancing to the tune saying it was epic. Mitchell Froom and Tchad Blake were my magicians. I am reminiscing. Humor me?

Sure we like a spot of good, old-fashioned chaotic techno here at DT, but we love to relax too, and seeing as how the working week is almost over we think it's the perfect time to share a little slice of serenity from Pablie. 

Out October 16th as part of the Spaniard's B Sides compilation - a 9-track collection of "instrumental soundscapes and immersive sonic sketches" produced from 2007-2009 - 'They Came From The Past' offers a laid back vision of electronica. Most easily described as instrumental hip hop sat somewhere between East Asian folk and Last Of The Summer Wine, the track seems to be the sonic embodiment of a meadow in summer - peaceful, warm and filled with the comforting rustle of life.

"Precious Life", produced with drummer Joey Waronker (Beck, Yeasayer, Atoms For Peace), is the new album title from Los Angeles songwriter AM. The drumming is raw, a treat for fans of Waronker’s playing and “Precious Life” captures sonically what it’s title suggests. The record is intimate, up close…even the groovers. You’re hearing the details clearly and, hopefully, appreciating the sensation.

Returning from an ultra-prolific period with electro-soul partner Shawn Lee’s Ping Pong Orchestra (AM & Shawn Lee project), AM summons a dreamy sound on his new solo outing. With Waronker behind the drums and the board and with AM doing just about everything else on synths, bass, and guitar, the two carefully craft a record that is honest and emotional, yet swings and pulses. Music made for the headphones...the big ones that is.

"The idea for Taiyo - meaning "Sun" in Japanese, came to me after a trip in Asia during fall 2018. After travelling there for about a month, i went back to Paris and locked myself up during a few weeks to create and work on a selection of tracks that would later become the EP.
I tried not to overthink it and just let the inspiration flow. Throughout the songs, in a mix between Electronic, World-Music and sometimes even Soul, I tried to recreate the unique atmosphere of the incredible landscapes i've encountered during my journey.
"Taiyo" is an invitation to travel, it's about the joy of finding yourself not really knowing where to go or where you will end up, and as Lewis Caroll put it so brilliantly: "If you don't know where you're going, any road can take you there".
