The latest installment of our free download series welcomes Adam Sellouk and Matan Tamal with their take on ‘Rumble’ by Skrillex, Fred again & Flowdan. Hailing from Israel, Adam Sellouk first emerged in 2021 with a contribution to Steyoyoke’s Paradigm collection. Immediately recognized for his astral sound, Adam quickly caught the attention of world class DJ Miss Monique, who signed him to her Siona Records imprint for a two-track showcase later that same year. 2022 would see further successes for Adam, with Nora En Pure’s Purified imprint being the landing spot for ‘Mirage’, a well received production which saw play from Agents of Time, Innellea, Kevin de Vries and Mathame. Meanwhile, fellow countryman Matan Tamal has enjoyed similar success since his debut on Steyoyoke in 2021. Over the next two calendar years the Petah Tikva resident would record projects for Awen Tales, Duenia and Lowbit Records. Having previously collaborated on ‘Polar’, a track which was released via Awen Tales last year, Adam and Matan decided to work on a club effective version of ‘Rumble’ by Skrillex, Fred Again & Flowdan. Released as part of Skrillex’s 2023 album ‘Quest for Fire’, the dubstep/grime fusion proved to be one of the album’s most popular tracks, racking up close to one hundred million streams across a six month stretch. As a much requested track in the sets of Argy, Innellea, 8kays, Human Rias recent sets, we’re happy to offer their bootleg version as a free download. Enjoy

The EP title 'corners' metaphorically symbolizes the diverse styles through which aal presents the variability of downtempo in four distinct tracks. These tracks draw inspiration from various elements of acoustic music, ranging from jazz in 'Yorck's Schlösschen' (a nod to the jazz club in Berlin) to orchestral hip-hop in 'Swinemünde.' The two remixes provide an additional layer of depth to the EP's main track, ‚sleepy owl,' offering darker or faster interpretations.

Magical! Playing at my favorite festival Landjuweel. A full moon, a rare lunar eclipse during the set and on the hottest day ever in Amsterdam. With live vocals of one of my best friends @miguel-el-vino and a small crowd filled with old and new friends! 

We celebrate this full moon party together with Moyee Coffee and spread the word of love and inequality of coffee farmers around the world. Combining my music with vocals and this message gave me a lot of good vibes.

I was motivated to create a surround remix of a Beatles song by hearing the Beatles Love album. I found the remixes inspiring, but also frustrating, since they don't vary too far from the original songs. I chose “Here Comes The Sun” because I have the multitracks, and because I heard potential to find new musical ideas within them.

I aimed to create a “dream” version of “Here Comes The Sun.” The song already occupies two different realities, the pastoral one implied by the acoustic guitar and simple lyrics, and the surreal one implied by the synthesizers. I wanted to bring the surreal aspect more to the forefront, by making the synths more prominent, by removing guitar and by adding vocoder and delay.
Rock fans revere their favorite albums as sacred texts. Beatles albums are particularly prone to this kind of iconic worship. Electronic and hip-hop musicians view their favorite recordings quite differently. We dig the crates searching for raw material for further creative work. We regard sampling, remixing and mashing up tracks to be the sincerest form of homage. There is no better way to get inside a recording than to remix it. The process of considering alternative mixing, editing and effects decisions forces you to engage in the active and analytic listening called for by Moylan. My own understanding of and admiration for the Beatles has deepened profoundly since I began to actively engage their material as a source of my own music.

I decided to limit myself solely to sounds found in the original multitrack of “Here Comes The Sun” -- it's such a rich source of inspiration that bringing in more material felt totally unnecessary. That said, I did use some effects from Ableton Live, including a vocoder to create additional vocal harmony; compression to bring particular sounds to the forefront of the mix; and various forms of delay for greater psychedelic flavor.
