To me, Richard Jeni was one of the best stand up comics ever. This was from an interview in the early 90s - you'll hear why Bullwinkle was Richard's favorite actor and a discussion of John Goodman's method acting "back story" for Fred Flintstone.

The Legend of the Octopus is a sports tradition during Detroit Red Wings home playoff games involving dead octopuses thrown onto the ice rink. The origins of the activity go back to the 1952 playoffs, when NHL teams played two best-of-seven series to capture the Stanley Cup. Having eight arms, the octopus symbolized the number of playoff wins necessary for the Red Wings to earn the Stanley Cup. The practice started April 15, 1952, when Pete & Jerry Cusimano, brothers and storeowners in Detroit's Eastern Market, hurled an octopus into the rink. 20 years ago, a tradition of throwing rats on the ice for Florida Panthers games began. Why? Before the home opener, a rat entered the team's dressing room & Scott Mellanby reacted by shooting the rat across the locker room with his stick, killing it. He then went out and scored two goals in a 4–3 victory over the Flames, leading the Panthers to their first win of the season. Goalie John Vanbiesbrouck described the incident to reporters after the game, stating that while Mellanby failed to score a hat trick (three goals in one game), he did manage a "rat trick". A tradition began and gave birth to this song: "It's Raining Rats!" Enjoy
