For the 81st episode of the OLAM podcast series, we present Esther Dune - Esther Dune’s sound is characterised by the legacy of techno and (acid) house music. Growing up in The Netherlands shaped Esther’s music as she absorbed the rich Dutch scene of the time. 
 
Being praised for her excellent high-end precision mixing skills Esther blends styles together flawlessly, bringing quality & content to any dancefloor. From raw electro to minimal, Detroit techno, hard techno & proper acid techno. She creates a natural flow traveling effortlessly through all the decades of electronic music like time doesn’t exist. 
 
She also enjoys playing deeper styles like Chicago house, deep abstract techno, obscure acid, (italo) disco, synth wave, new wave & EBM and feels right at home starting her DJ’s sets from scratch setting the mood and building to where the dancefloor needs to be. 
 
Dune has music out, also under her ‘Esther Duijn’ alias, on labels like Gegen Records, Deestricted, Expel Your Demons, Instruments of Discipline, Occultists, Adroit Recordings & Noise Manifesto. New releases are in the pipeline tba.
 
This has not gone unnoticed by the scene holding residencies at Gegen Berlin & Intergalactic FM and being a part of the legendary Tresor.Berlin family. Esther also made (regular) appearances at Radion, Basement NY, De School, Paradigm, Freerotation Festival, Elevator Shanghai, Panorama Bar to name a few. In 2017 she was asked by Resident Advisor to do a tour in Australia together with Skatebård. Esther has 10 streams out on HÖR Berlin & many on Intergalactic FM with more to come.

The German musician Remute has emerged as a pioneering force in the innovative realm of game cartridge-based music albums, capturing the imaginations of gaming and music aficionados around the globe. In just a few years, he delivered an impressive array of releases for iconic gaming consoles, including the Super Nintendo, Gameboy, Sega Genesis, and Nintendo 64. Known for releasing his mix of music on uncommon formats, his album "Limited" was released in 2017 on a 7-inch vinyl and 3+1⁄2 inch floppy disk. This album received a huge media response and put the floppy disk back on the map as a format for music. The next album "Technoptimistic", released in 2019, is the first ever techno music album that got released on a Sega-Mega-Drive cartridge

Equally distinctive are Remute's DJ sets, which artfully blend playful tech house, acid, and electro, all while paying homage to his roots in 90s rave culture. His performances have graced the dance floors of esteemed clubs such as Tresor, Berghain, and Weetamix, and he has left his mark on festivals like Fusion and Mayday. Additionally, Remute's remix portfolio boasts collaborations with notable artists such as Solomun, GusGus, and Dominik Eulberg.

In a groundbreaking achievement, Remute’s latest album, "There Is Hope," has been released for Atari’s Jaguar console, marking the first album ever created for this system. This endeavor underscores Remute's status as a visionary artist at the intersection of music and gaming, continuing to push the boundaries of both industries.

Cologne’s legendary RAVE CLUB [ http://www.psychothrill.de/?page=item&post=339 ] had caused quite a stir as a club institution in the Dome city during the years 1988 and 1989, not only throughout Germany, but also on an European basis – e.g. via features in FACE and I-D, as well as through its monthly schedule and its bookings [et al. Marshall Jefferson, Kym Mazelle, EPMD, Todd Terry…] together with the residents. For the first time, there now were club nights in Cologne, which were solely dedicated to House and Acid without any compromise and these also became an example in many respects for anything substantial that has been going on in Cologne’s night life ever since, be it Space Club, Elevator, Warehouse, “PSYCHO THRILL” or “Total Confusion” and which laid a foundation for all kinds of sounds that any Psycho Thrill guest has been experiencing since 1991 on a regular basis: Get right on matey – there are no rules, fear is unknown and sleep is out of question!

“This rather techy seventh prime-time part from a temporarily lost mix-tape series of myself- sorry here again for a few slight rumbles – was recorded during one of my rare solo nights without my partner Roland Casper sometime in November of 1989. It was done with a crappy RAIN mixer lacking gain control, only allowing semi-professional monitoring and I would kick any promoter’s ass for this today. The DJ booth also was exposed to some disturbances by visitors, which accounts for some of the skips during the mix. But the complete works of euphoric clubbers and the extraordinary atmosphere, which was created by the combination of a very good sound system, light and sound [two strobes, a fog machine, two flowers], made this club experience so absolutely valuable. That was the place, where we started the House and Techno “shit” first in Cologne.” [Claus Bachor about Rave Club Cologne]

This 7th part of Claus Bachor's RAVE CLUB Cologne mix series also features another special track collection of classic HOUSE music that conjures up the 4/4-class of '89, and its unpredicted blend of Deep-House/Garage, Acid, HipHouse, EBM/Industrial including early Techno and especially Detroit Techno.

This mixwork went under sound restoration by Cologne's finest CHRIS BAUMANN [ http://soundcloud.com/chris-baumann ] from some TDK tapes (that were recorded on a Yamaha tape recorder, so the quality is poor at times, but it is an authentic sound document of Cologne’s club life in the late 80s on the other hand) and got finally re-mastered there.
