Bart Skils’ fifth Drumcode offering comes in the shape of ‘Black Vans’. A high energy, full force, four track EP of powerful techno; he showcases his skills to produce four tight and solid tracks. Layering the EP with samples, synths and hard hitting drums, the four tracks create an emotive journey that proves Bart Skils is still on top of his game.

The seventh volume of Drumcode’s annual A-Sides compilation hits with no less than 10 debuts for the label, with Charlotte de Witte, ANNA, B.Traits and Scuba’s SCB project, among the collection of topline artists to release their maiden productions on the imprint. 

Over two decades into its lifespan, Drumcode keeps evolving and excelling, pushing techno forward while remaining wholly respectful of its roots. This reputation for progression was further fueled this summer with its inaugural festival at the NDSM Docklands in Amsterdam, featuring a long list of heavyweights including Nicole Moudaber, Joseph Capriati, Amelie Lens and Ida Engberg, among others. 

As ever, the A-Sides compilation provides a timely opportunity to showcase the full range of its sonic repertoire, with Adam Beyer scrupulously selecting 22 unreleased tracks that have taken prime position in his sets over recent months. 

Outstanding all-round talent ANNA kicks off the compilation with ‘Portable Paradise’, a pulsating cut that sets the tone for the top-shelf club cuts to follow. Also entering the debut field with their first ever Drumcode dalliances are B.Traits and Charlotte de Witte. The esteemed Canadian selector offers up ‘I Feel The Music’, a euphonic track that’s been sought after since spring, and the Belgian ballista unlocks a thick-edged club bomb in ‘Remember.’

Leaders of Drumcode’s new brigade, exciting Brazilian Wehbba and British techno alchemist Boxia set out to impress. Wehbba’s straight-talking ‘Just’ hits with an immediate sense of urgency before neck-snap claps strike with force, and Boxia’s ‘Final Call’ elicits physical engagement with mellifluous vocals and soaring pads. 

Continuously looking to bolster the profiles of emerging talent, Berlin-based producers Weska and Juliet Fox are brought into the fold with equally engaging razor-sharp tracks that are primed to do lasting damage. 

Other notable highlights include an exhilarating workout from Reset Robot - the most released artist on Beyer’s imprint Truesoul – as he lands on Drumcode for the first time. And tastemaker’s favourite Jel Ford makes a welcome return as he ushers in techno rhythms with bustling breaks in ‘Nightshade.’

Elsewhere, support from label mainstays comes in from Bart Skils, who offers a work of consummate skill in ‘West Of The Moon.’ Alan Fitzpatrick, who’s been heavily featured across the A-Side series, joins forces with Scuba as he operates as his uncompromising alias SCB. The result is a propulsive floor-gripper that testifies to their masterful deftness as co-producers. Formidable duos Dense & Pika and Pig&Dan also contribute with powerful compositions.

Hot off the back of a contribution to A-Sides Vol.9, Victor Ruiz returns for his second EP on Drumcode.

The Brazilian artist has been an industrious contributor to DC over the past 12 months, beginning with his excellent debut EP ‘Nimbus’ last May. Since then, he’s played Drumcode Festival, was part of the iconic Warehouse Project party in November and also featured in the first Drumcode Indoors session in March. His production prowess will be fresh in the minds of DC faithful after ‘Intuit’, his collaboration with Thomas Schumacher, was a standout of the recent A-Sides Vol.9 compilation.

The ‘Freedom’ EP is Ruiz’s next offering and emblematic of the creative breakthrough he experienced while crafting the four-track work. The title track is led by hypnotic rhythms and deep bass stabs before a vox enters the fore and builds to a delicious climax. ‘Illusions’ is a pulsating bassline-led groover that builds alongside mystical vocal effects. ‘Senses’ exudes an understated touch of Detroit soul and is a handy DJ tool for varying occasions. ‘Existence’ is a searing late-night techno affair, as layers of melody and swelling pads conjure a thrilling laser-kissed atmosphere.

It is always strange to describe your own music. 
Finally I did my own release, I wrote  "Rising Heart" and "Craving Desire"  before all the corona happened. Unfortunately I could not test it out on the dancefloor due to the circumstances we are all in. But I hope you will like it. 
„Love frequency 528 HZ„ is an ambient track , created during the lockdown, where I used the healing frequency of 528 HZ - maybe it is good to meditate on it. We all need to calm our thoughts and fears and I wanted to create some ambient music on my ep as well as it expresses my state of mind in that period of time.

Monika Kruse - Rising Heart

LOKD010 has arrived, this time by one of our very own label heads, and good friend, @avemsdream. 

Representing our hometown Basel over the last years, this time Boris is going all the way back to the 80’s. Having deep in his roots the disco days, mainly because of family business (his father in a concert in 1985 is our artwork for this EP), he has created his own new interpretation influenced by the golden era. 

Our new Disco Days EP is accompanied with remixes from our dear friends @yolanda-frei, and @buchneroberst. Which have been specially selected to bring their well known twist that has made them stand out in our scene for a long time. 

Even though it took some time, we are very happy to finally release his first EP in his very own home, @LOKDbasel.

As of late, the Canary Islands has consistently procreated a breed of talents into the electronic
music scene and veteran DJ/producer, Alex Medina ups the ante even further with his latest
contribution to MoBlack Records. Medina’s genre-defying “Nuevos Viajes” is a passport to
multi-dimensional musical realms that showcase a delicate balance of organic and synthetic
sounds cajoling in blissful matrimony. “Waver” warms up the EP, rolling over hearty drum beats
to paddle against tides of briny synths, kinky recoils and trippy mechanized vocals. A gallant
“Crystal Voyager“ emerges, withstanding and with utmost clarity gazing, right at the curls of
tidal-sized waves, infatuated by a clean 4/4 breakbeat rhythm into swallowing poignant
synthesized string processions and intermittent digital disruptions. Medina amasses
“Momentum” gasping for air, satiating curiosity with pulsated beats and anxious rhythms,
cruising a mosaic of mystical oriental overture and syncopated synth spurts. Gloating waves on
its back, MBR410 stays afloat, ascending towards the “Blue Horizon”, savoring the scent of
earth by dovetailing tribal drums with 16 bit playfulness and high-pitched cosmic poise.
Wrapping up the 5 track journey, “Morning of the Earth”. basks in solar ecstasy with an affective
melody, palliative vocals and flickering incandescence, dreamy drifting in spiritual harmony with
forces of nature. Mingling raw house instrumentals and obscure techno elements in atmospheric
electronica, MBR410 is a sonic masterpiece, stimulating senses as it blends into the framework
of reality, simulating a boundless journey by way of emotion and a constant pursuit of joy, in
play.

DE: Der Trick, den Aikon hier auf der Bühne unseres Oberstübchens aufführt, funktioniert in etwa so: Zuerst spannt er uns auf ein Förderband, dessen Antrieb irgendwo zwischen deepem House und melodiösem Techno zu verorten ist. Darauf lässt er uns an Groove-Andeutungen vorbeigleiten, die wiederum rhythmische Erwartungen aufkommen lassen. Und genau diese Erwartungen erfüllt der Ukrainer dann auch, jedoch auf höchst unerwartete Weise. Noch während wir uns darüber wundern, was genau da gerade mit uns passiert ist, tanzen die Beine schon ein paar Meter weiter und wandern die Hände zwischen den Harmonien davon. Als zweiten Streich knotet uns Aikon an einen minimalistisch-effizient gehaltenen Modulations-Strang namens Makonde. Über federndem Groove schwappen tribalistische Trommeln und Gesänge über die Grenzen unserer Wahrnehmung - vergleichbar mit den Eindrücken, die uns im Halbschlaf aus der Welt da draußen erreichen.

EN: The Trick, which Aikon pulls off on the stage of our conscious mind, works like this: First, he straps us onto a conveyor belt that originates from somewhere deep down between the realms of melodic techno and deep house. He then sends us zipping past shapes and structures, transporting us into a state of expectation. Next, the Ukrainian producer fulfills this expectation – but he does so in the most unexpected way. While we're still baffled and wondering exactly what just happened to us, our feet are already dancing away and our hands continue to explore the aural space between the harmonies. For the second strike on this EP, Aikon merges us into a minimalist string of rhythmic modulation named Makonde. Riding the crests of the buoyant groove we notice tribalistic drums and singing seeping through the gaps of our perception, a little bit like those sensory fragments that reach us behind closed eyelids when we're still halfway asleep.

Next up on Senso Sounds' Kontakt series is a collaboration between producers The YellowHeads,
Rebel Boy and Sam WOLFE. The YellowHeads have been lighting up the techno charts and parties over the last few years, building a solid reputation for techno that hits home hard. The boys from Madrid run the influential Reload Records, from which they have already
collaborated with Sam WOLFE, the up-and-coming talent behind the No.1 EP 'Graveyard March'. Making up the trio is Rebel Boy, the Detroit-born producer currently based in LA, already released on Riot Recordings and collaborated with Frankyeffe. The result of this unholy trinity is a pair of tracks that will cause a lot of damage when unleashed
in any situation. Adrenaline Machine is as hard as nails- a firing rhythm track provides the momentum for some huge drops and a slick sound design gives the track a true edge. Similarly, Motor City is another stripped down roller- a thick bass underpins the track before huge synths roll in to take the track into another dimension.
