Starting out going to shows in the Boston scene, he would go on to host and DJ one of the most popular monthly nights around before getting into dance music production more heavily. Earning repeated play time on outlets like NTS Radio and Boiler Room, alongside shows that take him across the country and globe, Amadeezy’s notoriety as an artist is growing by the day but the Bostonian behind the bass is still a mystery.

So, even in the midst of his busy schedule which included just wrapping sets in LA and Miami and an upcoming show in Madrid, Amadeezy took a quick breather to talk origin story, inspirations, music as a ‘career’, the legendary PVRPLE, and much more in our latest Pirate Radio. With this signature sound, he gained recognition in the mid-2000s  and has since collaborated with a range of high-profile artists, including Lil Wayne, Drake, and Pusha T. Mohawke has released several solo albums, including "Butter" in 2009 and "Lantern" in 2015, which have received critical acclaim. In addition to his work as a musician, he has composed music for film, television, and video games, and is known for his energetic live performances.

New York through and through, Swami grew up absorbed in music and determined to make a career of it. Amongst his growing notoriety, The Fader recently called his track Back in the Day (Soulecta Dub) one of the songs of the year. And now he has a song on Fortnite?

We’re excited to bring you another episode of Bodega Pirate Radio, recorded live from ComplexCon. This time around, we’re featuring our friend and extended Bodega fam, Derrick a.k.a. Tha Yellow R Kel from NYC.

Derrick is a talent booker and experiential events designer by day, and one of NYC's most sought-after DJs by night. He currently has 4 monthly residencies in Brooklyn and Manhattan and has started 3 separate event collectives. He hosts a bi-weekly radio show called One Giant Repost and is also part of the two-man nightlife programming team at Louie and Chan. 

In the 4 short years he’s been pursuing DJing full-time, Derrick has built up a loyal following and has performed at Trillectro Music Festival 2017 (Wash. DC), Rinse.FM's Born N Bred Festival 2016 (London), Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival 2016, Sway in the Morning, Lincoln Center for "Yeethoven" 2018 and at the American Museum of Natural History. He's worked with brands like Red Bull, Nike, Levis, Google, Madbury Club and Boiler Room and has shared the stage with acts like T-Pain, Divine Council, Cousin Stizz, Trippie Redd and Awful Records. DJing has given Derrick the opportunity to travel overseas to London and Manchester, across the border to Toronto and Montreal, and has flown all over the US to spin (LA, Austin TX, Miami, Boston, Baltimore). Put it this way, our boy has been busy. 

This year, he has plans to tackle Japan, China, Amsterdam, London, Paris and Berlin. Keep your eyes and ears open.

Bodega Pirate Radio - Episode #8 - Tha Yellow R Kel Live From Complexcon 2017

I had the incredible honor of playing a set with two of the most talented producer/ DJs in hip hop history this past spring. I only regret that I wasn’t keeping an eye on the equipment and only was able to capture 20 minutes of Just Blaze’s set since it was pure gold. He ran though some of his most iconic productions for Roc-A-Fella and through the magic of Serato cue points, rebuilt the “Roc Da Mic” beat as if he were playing an MPC set. DJ 7L opens this live recording up with a classic party rocking selection spanning avant-garde kraut rock, to seminal house and dancehall. As one of the godfathers of the scene, his production has led him to one of the most interesting projects in recent hip hop history - CZARFACE, a collaboration with 7L, Esoteric and Inspectah Deck. Be sure to check out the recent CZARFACE album w/ MF Doom which features a full comic book by Lamour Supreme, who you may know from Mishka & the touring Secret Walls tour.

We brought Vick Okada and Ken Chan from tokyovitamin with us to Innersect in Shanghai to further cross pollenate the sounds & sample what is moving the dance floors in part of the world.    This live mix takes is a great journey through modern funk, disco, rap, house that is definitely worth your attention.

At the time, we were deep in exploring original samples of many classic hip hop songs. We noticed an interesting connection for one particular artist that had a very unique sound. A wide range of producers had sampled 1970s Ahmad Jamal jazz records and coincidentally teamed up with some the dopest artists of the time to create some classic hip hop joints. Tracks sampling Ahmad Jamal's music seemingly created a deep playlist, all spawning from a few sound clips from a handful of Jamal's records. We used 4 turntables to create this mix to thread together some awesome music that was recreated as some equally awesome music and of course to pay appreciation to the brilliant jazz pianist himself.

Mikkoh is a Korean-American DJ and multidisciplinary artist based in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating from an esteemed science and engineering university, she decided to take the road less traveled and pursue a career in music, design, and film.

Her music has taken her far and wide, performing in cities all across Europe, Asia, and North America and has landed her features on popular outlets like Nike, HighSnobiety, Boiler Room, People’s Stylewatch Magazine, and more. Mikkoh advocates fr women of color, immigrants, and Asian Americans in creative fields using her platform to curate online content and brand experiences that support and elevate her community. Nevertheless, her infatuation with orchestrating the crowd’s emotions and body movements keeps bringing her back to stages all around the world.

The star of Bodega’s first-ever Pirate Radio Mix, Riobamba is an Ecuadorian-Lithuanian producer, DJ and cultural activist based out of Brooklyn. As the former Music Editor at Remezcla and Fulbright researcher studying digital production as a “subversive tool for healing the legacy of civil conflict and displacement,” her resume reads like a highlight reel of proactive, humanistic quests for justice and equality through music. Today, she runs APOCALIPSIS, the forward-thinking, NYC-based record label/creative agency, and is a proud member of the techno-feminist booking agency, Discwoman. Her long-running Boston-based, global bass night “Pico Picante” is going on its 10 year (pandemic pending), while her recent European tour was sadly cut short for the same reason. She’s shared stages with visionaries as disparate as Toro y Moi, Swizz Beatz and The Knife and now she’s coming at you live from self-isolation.

"We kinda just went with the best weed rock, 90s skate blunt anthems and West Coast underground chronic favorites with a touch of Ray Charles...you know that. I remember always knowing about classic rock and punk from my hippie Dead friends in high school cause I used to sell them weed. Getting high to Tom Petty is highly recommended. People are quick to think about pot head music as crazy chill or "vibey," but some my favorite weed joints are rowdy, rowdy or gangster as fuck. "How To Roll A Blunt" is party-ready and also literally teaches you how to ROLL A BLUNT. I could play any Nate Dog record cause they are all kinda about smoking weed. That Dre-era is so tied with "CHRONIC" and marijuana, it let everyone know gangsters are pot heads too. Then Cypress Hill did it in reverse cause they were pot heads that you eventually realized were pretty gangster. Anyway I'm rambling and stoned and haven't touched a human in a month. We tried to pick a majority of joints that don't get much shine but some classics you just have to include. I could do three or four of these but this is what we ended up with."
