It’s been a busy 12 months for trans-Atlantic Paraguayan trio LPZ since their debut EP, ‘1983’ was released to widespread acclaim, landing the ‘Disco Single of the Month’ award in DJ Mag and was featured online everywhere from XLR8R and Dazed Digital to Gotta Dance Dirty and Discobelle.

In the intervening months they’ve released another well received 12” on Loungin’ Recordings and remixed the likes of The Herbaliser, Compuphonic (Get Physical) and LOGO (Kitsune), finally though they return to Body Work with a brand new 4 track EP, ‘Think For Yourself’.

Kicking things off with the title track and it’s a side of LPZ we haven’t seen before, straight up 303’s blazing acid house, as raw, untamed and exciting as anything released on Relief back in the 90s and the perfect soundtrack to a late night in a smoke filled warehouse (preferably one that isn’t on fire of course).

Next up is ‘Council Fonk’ a track that even before it had been mastered or promo’ed had found its way into Maya Jane Coles sets and her Essential Mix. It’s easy to see why too, with its shuffling beats that manage to be both funky and kick like a mule and melodies that echo off into space it’s destined to form the backbone of countless DJs sets this summer.

Next up we have ‘Without You’ which could well prove to be the EPs secret weapon, stripped back and minimal, it’s not as in your face as ‘Think For Yourself’ but over the course of its 6 minutes continues to build and build, until the yearning vocal snippets, bubbling bass line and no nonsense beats all combine to create something extra special.

To complete the package Body Work have enlisted another new signing, Posthuman, to remix ‘Think For Yourself’. Ahead of the release of their own EP and fresh from 12”s on labels such as Tusk Wax and RSI, Posthuman inject a dose of cold machine funk into the track. If the original is like a suped up muscle car, all raw barely contained power, then Posthuman’s remix is the equivalent of a Maserati, precision engineered and harnessed for maximum efficiency. WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF CVNT, a world where voguing dominates, and house in all its forms, past and present, ballroom to retro, is the musical language.

After a sterling debut in 2012, which included support from Hannah Holland (Batty Bass), JD Twitch (Optimo), Bok Bok (Night Slugs), Rushmore (House Of Trax), Severino (Horse Meat Disco) and voguing/ballroom legend Vjuan Allure, CVNT (aka Niall Connolly) is back with a brand new four track EP on Body Work, 'STATEMENT'.

"There comes a point in the life of all ballroom children where, if they want to become legendary, they must make their "statement". To make the progression from being a star, or a face at vogue balls, to being someone who is recognised for their talent. To build a reputation, to stake a claim on becoming an icon, every child must make their statement, and this is mine.

I don't walk balls, I make music for other people to walk balls to. So my statement is not a look, it is not face, or body or femme or a dance or a dip or couture: my category is music. My statement is right here in these tracks.

I'm not looking to simply ape the sounds of the New York legends - to be a true statement I have to stay true to who I am and where I come from. That's why I seek to fuse elements of British grime and garage to the New York ballroom template. In the end they are all forms of the genre we call House, and House music is what unites all the children, no matter what their category. With my statement I hope I am showing respect for the original legends while pushing things forward."

As well as being a talented producer and a popular DJ, Niall is also a highly respected writer and blogger, who has written articles on vogue/ballroom culture for Boing Boing, Red Bull Music Academy, Dalston Superstore and The Skinny, and is a regular contributor to the American alt-culture blog Dangerous Minds.

It feels strange to say that an act who have been around for over a decade releasing more than half a dozen albums should be ‘Ones To Watch’ in 2014, but cousins Josh Doherty and Rich Bevan aka Posthuman’s career has never exactly followed the rules.

Originally part of the, then, thriving UK Electronica scene at the start of the new millennium Posthuman instantly made an impression with a series of releases on their own Seed Records imprint, Manchester’s Skam and legendary UK techno label B12 Records, with their debut album picking up plaudits from Pitchfork as "one of the best IDM-oriented albums of 2001" Over the course of the ‘00s the cousins would go on to release several albums experimenting with everything from pure ambience and techno to post-rock, ‘The People’s Republic’ being hailed by DJ Mag as "joining the dots between early Autechre and Mogwai”, and 'Syn Emergence' being hailed by LFO as "one of the best techno albums ever".

All the time though Posthuman still kept at least one foot on the dancefloor throwing the now-near legendary parties such as the series of raves in Aldwych’s disused tube station that featured everyone from Aphex Twin and Luke Vibert to Goldfrapp and S’Express’ Mark Moore - and since 2007 both promoting and holding down a monthly residency at I Love Acid (Corsica Studios).

The past 18 months though has seen Doherty and Bevan fully turn their attention back to the dancefloor releasing a series of 12”s on labels such as Tusk Wax, Balkan Vinyl, and RSI that have caught the attention of DJs like Daniel Avery, Ben Sims, and Disco Bloodbath’s Damon Martin, combining grinding Detroit inspired Techno and bubbling Acid House basslines with icy precision.

Which brings us to the ‘Decompression’ EP - the soundtrack to a corrupted AI system’s final moments, corroded circuits firing and misfiring to produce 4 new tracks of hypnotically dark acid plus a remix from Houndstooth artist House of Black Lanterns. From the abyssal ‘Decompression’ through to the percussive ‘So Cruel’, ‘Back to Acid’s snake like bleeps and onto HOBL’s elegiac remix, this is an EP sure to dominate dance floors from underground bunkers to warehouse raves alike.

The first of two new 12”s to be released on the Bruxelles-via-London imprint Body Work (Waze & Odyssey, LPZ, CVNT and more), the ‘Decompression’ EP arrives hot on the heels on the heels of their remix of Bohemian Groove for New York’s Throne of Blood, and ahead of their upcoming "30 years of Acid" Solid Steel show in April marks another important milestone of this act’s ever evolving career.
