"Everything is asleep" (2018) is a calm, meditative and melodic piece for flute and guitar. The piece was written for and dedicated to the english guitarist Paul Gregory and english flautist Marielle Way, who premiered the piece at a concert in Denmark in 2018.
The recording is made by Linnéa Villén fl and Allan Sjølin gt from the album "Lepidopterans-Music for flute and guitar by Michael Bønsdorf & Morten Skjoldan Petersen" (2022).

Everything is asleep

"Butterflies" (2004, rev. 2017/2022) was written for and premiered by the Danish Duo Takemitsu (Marianne Leth and Anders Borbye). The three movements describe the three stages in the Butterfly's creation. From Caterpillar with the meandering material in the first movement, to Chrysalis where the music in the movement is very static and monotonous, until the fast and brilliant last movement, where the Butterfly unfolds in all its beauty. The work was recorded in 2022 by flutist Linnéa Villén and guitarist Allan Sjølin on the album "LEPIDOPTERANS" Music for flute & guitar by Michael Bønsdorf and Morten Skjoldan Petersen.

"Hommage á Francis Poulenc" is a little piano suite written in 1989/1990. Rev. 1993 It is a youthful work written in honor to one of my earliest musical heroes the french composer Francis Poulenc (1899-1963). The movements are: Prélude - Pastorale - Danse - Marche. 
It is the very fine pianist Haley Myles who is playing on this recording.

The work "Carp in a Waterfall"  (1999) was inspired by the Japanese Katsushika Hokusai's (1760-1849) woodcut. However, this is not music of a particularly descriptive nature, it is more a short musical fantasy on the Japanese woodcut. The work was commissioned by the Flute Trio Flutention and is dedicated to them.

The Seasons-Suite for Piano (2014-2018). The four character pieces draw their inspiration from the changing moods and colours of the seasons. Thus, the movements are mirrors and echoes of impressions, rather than program music. The movements, "Spring Wheather" and "Winter Wheather" are dedicated to kalle Mathiesen, "Summer Wheather" and "Autumn Wheather" are dedicated to Marie Ingerslev. The Seasons is recorded by the pianist Malene Thastum in 2018.

The number "Cancer" is composed by drummer and bas player Kalle Mathiesen and arranged for symphony orchestra by me Michael Bønsdorf. It is recorded by Kalle Mathiesen and Sønderjyllands Symphony Orchestra. And is recorded on Kalle Mathiesens LP- "More is More" from 2020.

"Short Cantus firmus on a Theme for Bells" for Clarinet, Cello and Piano (2011) is based on "The Watchman`s Song" composed by late Danish composer P.E. Lange-Müller following composer and musicologist Thomas Laub`s stated notes(b natural-a natural-g natural-e natural). The tune can be heard every day at noon, 6 pm and midnight played by the bells of the Copenhagen City Hall. "Short Cantus firmus on a Theme for Bells" is commissioned by and dedicated to the Danish ensemble Trio Nord. Malene Thastum, piano-Thomas Lund Jensen, clarinet- Dorothea Wolff, cello.

Michael Bønsdorf is a Danish composer born in the city of Odense in 1965. He holds a master's degree in musicology from the University of Aalborg. In conjunction with his university studies he studied theory and composition with renowned Danish composers Svend Christiansen, Svend Hvidtfelt Nielsen and Niels Marthinsen. Michael Bønsdorf is a member of the Danish Composers’ Society (www.komponistforeningen.dk) and the composer´s society "Komvest".
His work has been greatly influenced by a vivid range of composers from J.S. Bach over Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Francis Poulenc, Igor Stravinsky,
Sergey Prokofiev, Bela Bartok, Arnold Schönberg, Kurt Weill, George Gershwin, William Walton, N.V. Bentzon, Witold Lutoslawski to Burt Bacharach, whose works continue to be a source of considerable inspiration.
Bønsdorf's music is characterized by a clarity in form and poly stylistic expression. Further, his use of repeated themes and vivid melodic phrases give
his music a distinctively poetic and flourishing nature.
He has received various grants and scholarships, most notably: A work stay, granted by the Danish Art Foundation in Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris
(2001). He was also awarded a two-year start-up scholarship for young artists (1999-2000), granted by The Danish Art Foundation and he received a work
stay in Athens(2000), granted by the Velux Foundation in co-operation with the Danish Institute in Athens and a workstay (1995) in Umbria Italy.
He has to this date mainly written choir-and chamber music.
