SPEEDY TECH

Our first premiere of the week comes from one of the most exhilarating names in techno today, Chlär. Swiss native Chlär arrives on SHDW & Obscure Shapes imprint Mutual Rytm for a six track EP, comprised of futuristic grooves and tribal narratives. We premiere ‘Spirit Enhancer’ a high octane 90’s inspired cut, which draws on dub techno and disco flavours.

Emerging as an artist of note for both now and the future, Chlär continues to craft and shape his sound as he curates his own high-octane approach to techno. Combining dynamic performances taking in three and four deck mixes with his own up front productions and his talents as a former mastering engineer, the Swiss talent has become a respected name amongst his peers. After releases on Lobster Theremin and his own Bipolar Disorder imprint, the Berlin-based DJ, producer and label boss heads to SHDW & Obscure Shape’s blooming label Mutual Rytm to deliver six precise and powerful cuts across his ‘Optimized Groove’ EP.

We have the pleasure of once again premiering music from our favourite new techno label, Mutual Rytm and Chlär’s release is one of the most exciting yet. Spirit Enchancer comes in hot as the final track of the record (excluding the digital exclusive), and it’s packed with smouldering grooves. The Berlin based producer seems to be firmly looking back at classic 90’s techno for inspiration on this one, as the track would be easily mistake for early Technasia or Monika Kruse.

Chlär goes hard with rolling low end, yet show’s the light with illuminating strings, funked up disco sampling, and some infectious dub chord for good measure. The most impressive piece of of production prowess on this track is Chlär’s impeccable ability to create raw and raucous drum grooves and exemplary swing on his percussion, simply infectious in every possible way.

Raffaele Attanasio drops his first EP for two years as he heads to SHDW & Obscure Shape’s Mutual Rytm for his ‘Quasar’ EP.

A product of Naples’ rich techno history, Italian DJ, producer and musician Raffaele Attanasio is an artist who represents the city’s iconic sound while drawing from influences across the Atlantic and the genre’s home of Detroit. Garnering plaudits from artists including Jeff Mills, Len Faki and Ben Sims, while releasing on Mills’ Axis alongside Non Series, Third Wave Black, and his own Letter From Jerusalem imprint, Attanasio’s eclectic sound now delves into Italian techno of the early 2000s as he makes his label debut on Mutual Rytm - revealing his first EP in over two years and showcasing a new side to his sound with ‘Quasar’.

Title track ‘Quasar’ brings a tunnelling groove beneath floating melodies and zipping synths, before A2 ‘Asterion’ combines dubby stabs and punchy kicks effortlessly. On the flip, ‘Blazar’ is a squelchy acid-led trip guided by sharp metallic hats, with ‘Axial Inclination’ utilising jittering drums and slinking bass to keep the energy levels rolling.

‘Chara’ shapes up the physical package, a skipping, spirited and classy cut fusing hazy textures and crisp percussion, while digital exclusive ‘SGR’ sees things return to acid territories, with purchasers able to access a darker impactful take on techno.

SHDW & Obscure Shape and their “Mutual Rytm" imprint celebrating a first year anniversary with an outstanding 3 vinyls pack as their tenth release to date and the second instalment of their "Federation of Rytm" compilation series.

Being the buzzing German producers most prestigious project to date, their musical philosophy of "modern old school techno", has been backed up by some of their favorite artists out there, from well-established to new upcoming producers, all contributing their music to take part in one of the most highlighted releases of the new year. The compilation features 22 tracks: 18 cuts spread over 3 vinyls covered with the label's neat artwork signature, and 4 digital bonus tracks. This and more, sum up the musical vision of the German duo, going between early hours to peak time anthems and in between previously known artists to the label and new appearances of new talents, all together, symbolized by different generations and areas of techno-based music, backed up with the label head honchos SHDW & Obscure Shape's wide community following, marking the calendar for an exciting game changer release set for February 2023.

ONI is happy to present it's new Y series which is going to mainly focus on the 90's to early 00's Techno era.

The series will be an outlet for label head Danny Wabbit to showcase his productions inspired by the Y generation.

The first track, "Don't F*** With My Energy," is a high-energy anthem that combines driving percussion, distorted Acid lines, and a powerful vocal sample. It embodies the fierce independence and resilience that characterized the early techno era.

The second track, "Gotta Kill Bill," is a nod to the iconic martial arts film and its soundtrack. Its intense bassline, sharp hi-hats, and eerie synth create a tense and suspenseful atmosphere, this track showcases the influence of soundtrack music on early techno.

The final track, "Pacer," is a homage to the futuristic sounds of the early 90s. Its hypnotic synth, swirling pads, and pounding beat create a pulsating energy that transports listeners to another dimension. This track shows how early techno was deeply influenced by futurism.
