Portugal’s @3wa lands on the UK’s long running Boka Records label. 3WA will be an artist familiar to some having released on other notable labels such as Crucial Recordings, Foundation Audio and Earth & Stone. On Boka’s 53rd vinyl release he drops two heavyweight tracks taking on a deep sea theme, with “SEA WITCH” and “WHALE”. This is deep, heavy dubstep just how we like it, with the atmosphere and swagger reminiscent of early DMZ. I also make a concentrated effort to incorporate dub in my dubstep tracks, As I find it a missing key component in dubstep. I simply think it's missing and we need to hear more of it. So I'm going to make an effort to include these elements.

The title track of the EP '333' is an ode to the club in Shoreditch which used to host classic dubstep nights in the 2000s. I started '333' with the bass line, which instantly reminded me of old school dubstep. I wanted to hone in on this vibe as well by adding the dub guitar lick.

'Creatine' is a weighty dubstep/grime hybrid track that can fit in a dubstep rave or a set with grime MC's. The bass is straight dubstep with elements of grime in the drum programming to make it more rhythmic than your average dubstep track.

I close the EP with 'Mad House' which is a mad wobbler with some grimy drums and dub elements too! Enjoy!' - J Beatz, Sept 2025

“For as long as I can remember, I've had a strong fascination/obsession with Japan – the culture, history, people, technology. Japanese toys, cartoons, and fashion have contributed greatly to my compulsive collecting problem over the years. It's always been a dream to visit, and in 2014, that dream came true.

I knew I wanted to create the 'Tokyo EP' as soon as the flight was booked. It was a personal challenge to myself to create a concept EP with a simple set of rules: Collect as many sounds in Japan as possible, and create Dubstep using those sounds. I wanted to bring as much of Japan back home with me as I could. I bought countless CDs, vinyl records, soundtracks, and anime. I captured 24-bit WAV recordings on trains, in parks, in taxis, restaurants, at live shows. I bought movies. I had hours and hours of audio to listen through when I returned home, and after a month or two of sorting and sampling, there were enough sounds to begin work.

Japan is the most amazing place I've ever visited in my life. I can't wait to go back. This EP is the embodiment of my experience – the places I visited; the things I love. Thank you for listening and I hope you enjoy the 'Tokyo EP' as much as I enjoyed creating it. Big up”
