A lucid dream meeting of synth waves, aquatic jazz spirits and drum-triggered electronics. ‘Linha D'Água’ translates as ‘water lines’, fitting for an album that traces boundaries between water and air through an echo chamber of dizzying oceanic layers and free flowing ideas.

Mauricio Takara and Carla Boregas are two towering figures of the Brazilian underground/experimental scene, where they provide the rhythm section for demented genre-bending trio Rakta. While that band is all ritual percussion and red-blooded passion, as a duo they’re a blue-water flowing counterpoint. From the drums, Takara fires melodies and, with the synthesizer, Carla sculpts the sound. The result is caught somewhere between abstract improvisation and propulsive rhythm. Each song’s an organic layering of manipulated synthesizers and acoustic sounds; teasing new rhythms from the drum kit via MIDI (and a near-telekinetic bond between Carla and Mauricio).

Duppy Gun and Bokeh presents the huge debut statement from Okeme Robinson aka Gaza G Sudden, the second staple artiste in Duppy’s global dancehall project. Rolling with Duppy since 2013’s ‘Girls Dem Need Me’ debuted him into the world, G Sudden’s youth fire comes of age after lighting up the Portmore scene at Reggae Yard, Stop the Crime on Violence tour and Chopdawg Sundays.

Production comes from Richmond, BC (Canada via Manila) crew Seekersinternational who clashed with Duppy on 2019’s I Jahbar and Friends

CDMX Queen Smurphy releases her new Bokeh Versions EP "Spheres of Consciousness," flexing 5 ardkore x juke inspired helium neck-snappers transporting you to a higher states.The Spheres of Consciousness EP represents a rising up, an embracing of life. 
We’re lucky to be hearing from the NAAFI / Leaving Records affiliated, CDMX-based producer at all. She’d all but shelved music to focus on her health; suffering loss of mobility and chronic pain from a spinal birth defect (Spina Bifida Occulta). Until Smurphy came across breatharian literature about ‘living without food’.
There’s a deep link with rave’s central DNA - the dancefloor promise of reaching that higher state - and her ongoing health conditions. These five dancefloor destroyers are wordlessly encoded with the breatharian theory. Life goes though different levels of existence like a videogame, from the lowest level as hard minerals (‘Existence’), plant and fungi life resonates as ‘Growth’, animal life resonates as ‘Instinct’, human life runs on ‘Intellect’, the boss level is ‘Intuition’ - the highest non-material sphere. 
Clearly Smurphy is back, healthier than ever, and in control with collaborative dancehall productions with Duppy Gun artists coming in 2021, with more music and collabs to be announced.

A year after dropping his VIP remix of Isandula on POLAAR, SNKLS returns to the Lyon based label for his first full-length release: Half Horn.

Footwork is a huge inspiration to SNKLS, as his previous sophiscated releases on ultra-cool labels such as Le French Work and Club Late Music. He produces tunes in which intricate sound design and 808s drum pattern weave in and out of one another, ultimately creating his own planetary footwork system.

On the EP, the opener ‘Matin Shape’ which provides the listener a space for contemplation while busybody drum programming persists throughout the track. One can feel the inspiration of Aphex Twins’ Rephlex, in both the delicate attention to pads sounds, melodies, and the chiseled percussion.

Second track ‘Half Horn’ is an ode to the sound system in its most extreme form, its low end may be massive enough to do damage on the dancefloor, but its mutant bassline and sound design also push it in the direction of 90’s electronica and IDM Techno.

‘Stir’ driving beats and wistful textures are developing a sense of mystery through the whole track. One can hear the influence of grime, while «I Don’t Give an Acid» gives the listener what they expect from such a title: a fucked up ghetto tech track ready to damage their brain!

Rather than playing it safe within the genre’s familiar borders, SNKLS instead uses Footwork as a base from which to incorporate other sounds.

The tracks construction are sometimes straight and sometimes syncopated, taking the listener between techno and footwork without ever releasing the tension, all plunging into a supernatural atmosphere that scrolls at full speed.

I had a fever and a cough and was waiting for the results of my covid test. This is the mood. I had planned something completely different but I let myself go with the flow of my disorder. Playing music when you're feverish and overtired really brings something different I think! Here, a kind of jerky brutality and some delirium moments.
