Artist Mihai Popoviciu has been one of Romania’s most trusted exports. His tracks have since the late 00’s been cropping up on the most respected labels such as International Deejay Gigolo Records, Poker Flat Recordings, and Wiggle.

Another long-running label that has been a consistent home to Mihai is Bondage Music and since 2013 but it is his most up-to-date outing on the label that interests us. Berlin based producer, SY, opens the META label 2021 account in fine fettle, with two impressive cuts for Ben Rau’s ever consistent label.

Originally from Manchester, SY has been operating his EWax label since 2016, issuing a consistent and steady stream of releases from the likes of Debussy, Den Haas, Revivis, and SY himself.  Deep and minimal house music par excellence is the signature sound served up here, on his assured debut for META.

‘Spacetype’ is a cruising, interplanetary ride; deep bass pulses and propulsive beats are soaked in galactic pads and spiraling melodic keys, for an exceptional journey through time & space.  Accompanying track, ‘Want Me’, is all swinging beats and deft chords, whilst a muted vocal rhythmically intertwines the alluring synth motifs.

An unflappable brace of tracks from SY, and a fine way to kick start the new year.
