Mystic Cast #5 | Bonfante

Landing next on A Tribe Called Kotori is Spanish born, Germany based producer Bonfante. Schooled to the warm, suave traditional sounds of her homeland, the Kamai Music co-founder and 3000Grad resident plugs into our catalogue with the balearic-infused “Fallen Stars” EP - a three-track ode to a slower, kinder, more soulful kind of lifestyle and multi-strain blender of rhythms. 

Fusing electro-acoustic oneirism with a debonair polyrhythmic swagger, “Fallen Stars” swings and whirls like a slo-burning Latin-jazz jam, blended with a stealth bass drive, processed pop tropes and cosmo-folk accents. “Hidden Ground” shows off a more straightforward club attack without letting go of that syncopated groove signature of hers, dextrously moving the cursor from teeming sub-scapes to blazing bass flights. 

Rounding off the package, “Shall We Begin” is a further intricate paradox of altered machine gargles on a drip-tease flex and brittle, textures-splattered sound design. Continually evolving with every bar, it remains a cohesively riveting tableau, harbouring a noria of micro-realities over the course of seven painstakingly sculpted minutes of ethereal and vibrant, non-formulaic dance music.

Here it is....the „Move on“ Remix for the canadian/french artist Mélissa Laveaux (No Format label).  
It´s been a big pleasure working on this track for two things: one, Mélissa is one of the most gifted singer songwriters i´ve heard in a long time (if you don´t know her album „Dying is a wild night“ you are definitively missing something!). Second, i was lucky enough to do this remix together with Robert Helms (from Umami)...a really inspiring producer! ...hope you like the result!

JPattersson and Constantijn Lange team up for their first appearance on Heimlich Musik, delivering the 24th EP with remix contributions by Bonfante and Roderic. Nightshades is the result of a collaboration between JPattersson and Constantijn Lange that started with an accidental encounter at the airport. Staying in touch ever since, they soon met at Constantijn’s studio where their first creative collaboration was created. The outcome of an intense studio session is a composition combining sophisticated sound design based on vintage synthesizers, beats formed of organic percussions, and ambience atmos with a pinch of trumpet recordings. Bonfante’s interpretation picks up the arpeggio lines and puts the focus on the trumpet while Roderic’s arrangement is a rising banger with eclectic melodies, hypnotic pads, and dystopian lead synths. The Nightshades EP is the versatile result of the collaborative effort of four artists adding their personal touch to the productions while sticking to the concept of the EP as a whole.

🗯🗯 How Did Corona change your artist life? 🗯🗯

When Corona arrived i was starting to feel more and more confident and comfortable in musical terms on many different levels: i had as many festival and international bookings ahead as never before, i was building up a label, working as musical consultant for different festivals, working on interesting studio projects, etc etc.  Most of this, suddenly freezed and i was sunk into a (creative) blockade.  Spending so much time at home, thousands of km away from my family was not easy and in order to clear my head i decided to fulfill a long time dream: dive into the modular world. So i used the lockdown to learn about it and start to build my own rack, bit by bit, module by module. It is still a humble, small rack and i have just started to scratch the surface of modular synthesis, but this has been a great medicine for me in order to find again my creative focus and develope further my approach to music.

🗯🗯 Where did you record the mix and how did you feel? 🗯🗯

I only do a few podcasts a year because i like to approach them as something rare and special. I always spend quite some time, digging for the right music. Recording this one for United We Stream, has been very special for me, because it is very meaningful what this platform has achieved in such a short and difficult moment.  Therefore i wanted to record a special mix, that fully represented my musical world these days. I prepared it at home, recorded it in the studio and it felt quite good when i finished it, as i was able to translate into the mix everything i wanted musically.

🗯🗯 What are your wishes for the time after Corona? 🗯🗯

At a personal level: to be able to make again my living from and with music.  In general: i can´t believe ( i don´t want to!) that all this pandemia won´t bring us any good lessons...so that´s my wish for the time after Corona: certain economic, social and emotional changes on a structural level.

A historic snowstorm (that trapped me there longer than expected), turned suddenly everything into a strangely beautiful and fragile chaos....Somehow that experience had an impact on my music selection for this mix.
