This EP was independently produced. "Babel" was recorded in a garage. The other three tracks were recorded at the table in our apartment's living room. Also, that is, in fact, a frying pan in "Hiram".

In the days before the Civil War in New York State, the Barnburners were a political faction that critics claimed held the philosophy of wanting to "burn down their own barn" to get rid of a rat infestation.

Barnburner is a folk-rock, alt country, bluegrass Jeremiad - drawing from the biblical tradition of complaint and call to repentance - crowned with a personal story of searching and return.

The celebration - and it's a real barnburner - begins and gets out of hand. The barn ultimately burns down for lack of carefulness and catches the forest. There is fire and smoke thick over the valley. Yet in the end some are rescued from above and the fires are extinguished. It's at that point that the real celebration begins.
