GG10 - Step Into My Life/Minter 4 Tha Munter - Mono/Loco

This might be the first Grass Green release after a loooooong hiatus, but it’s business as usual for the New Zealand label that created quite a reputation last time round.

This new project from Chris Reed (Monkey Boots/Reed & Radley) kicks off with two storming cuts showcasing his enduring love for the building blocks of house - swing, groove and melody.

Lead track Step Into My Life is all aboard the disco train, powered by not one but two basslines - a rolling disco sample and a solid-as single-note acid hit. There’s extra impetus from cleverly programmed punches of guitar, heady horns and seductive strings, before a yearning vocal takes things to the next level. Deep and driving peaktime tackle.

Minter 4 Tha Munter’s different altogether, a sort-of “rave garage” sound influenced by the stab-heavy NY/NJ sounds of the early 1990s. This one’s built around an ascending piano line straddling a properly bouncing bassline. Vocal stabs increase the intensity before a hypnotic, sung refrain seals the deal.

Over two decades, Chris and long-time collaborator Paul Radley quietly built a well-regarded body of work, including releases on DiY Discs and pioneering New Zealand label Reliable Recordings. They were also key players in the creation of Grass Green. It’s good to have it back.

Honoured to have been asked to play at this year's End Of Year Riot. The Unabombers are legends to me and Electric Chair in my opinion was one of the most influential nights in the UK over the last 20 years. They also know how to throw a party...and how to have one. I like it like that.

So I put together a DJ mix to celebrate the up and coming riot!

- このミックスの収録場所を教えて下さい。
 
自分のスタジオで録音したよ。PionnerのCDJ２台とDJM600、録音機材は古いYAMAHAのオーディオレコーダーだね。 


- このミックスのコンセプトを教えて下さい。
 
自分の大好きな曲ばかりを詰め込んだミックスだね。いつも心がけてるんだけど、選曲にはバリエーションを持たせて、オーディエンスがダンスフロアで感じるような驚きや楽しみを体験できるように作っているよ。僕はミックスというのは「旅」のようなものだと常に思っていて、今後行われる世界でのツアーでのプレイに思いを馳せながらミックスしたからね。そこに住む人たちに届くように願っているよ、その中にはもちろん日本も含まれているよ。
 

- 近況と最近の活動について教えてください。

今後はアメリカ、欧州各所、中国、そして日本でもツアーの予定があるよ。夏はイビザに滞在して、Hippie Marketのような雑多なところから、Spaceなどの大型のクラブまで、様々な所でプレイをする予定だね。

レーベルワークでは、100%オリジナルのディスコレーベル"File Under Disco"を設立したばかりだから、そこからのリリースが多いと思う。このレーベルからは、Drop Out Orchestra（昨年12月に同レーベルからリリースしたアーティスト）のようなオリジナルのディスコトラックを制作するアーティストの楽曲を、Idjut Boys、Ron Basejam、Pete Herbertを始めとした多くのトップアーティストによるリミックスと合わせてに発表していくつ もりだよ。もちろん"Disco Deviance"や"Tribute"、Pete Herbertとの共同レーベル"Maxi Discs"、レフトフィールドレーベル"Home Taping Is Killing Music"からもリリースしていくけど。"Back To The Balearics "という新たなレーベルも始めるつもりだ。このプロジェクトは僕がイビザ滞在中に影響を受けた、より一層ダウンテンポなグルーブにフォーカスしたもので、若手プロデューサーMaricopaの作品を夏前にリリース予定だね。その他のリリース予定は以下の３作、楽しみにしていて下さい。
