Now one of today’s most hotly tipped artists, Cristoph has come a long way since listening to his brother’s Chicago and Detroit House cassettes years ago. The past 12 months have been particularly seminal for the fast-rising Geordie, garnering support from a slew of modern house music’s established artists such as fellow northerner Hot Since 82, as well as releasing on the likes of Noir music, Underground Audio, Material and Extended Play. Furthermore Cristoph has also become a staple on Defected’s sister label DFTD, releasing his massive ‘Guffaz EP’ last year, followed by two more original releases, as well as mixing the imprint’s inaugural mix album. 

With Cristoph’s appearance on Tube & Berger’s imprint Kittball he once again demonstrates his consistency by delivering a pair of killer cuts. From the off ‘Rimshot’ is brimming with attitude, demonstrating steaming kicks, a rumbling bassline and fuzzy hook, before beckoning a thunderous drop. A moody remix comes from Chemical Surf, who distort the original’s vocals and through in some seriously decadent bass that will indisputably throw dancefloors into a frenzy. ‘Back To Beat’ is then a heady number containing swinging hats, ambiguous spoken vocals, and seductive acid modulations, whilst eerie synths ebb in and out throughout the mix.

Another batch of artists join Solomun's Diynamic roster with the sixth edition of the label's Four To The Floor series.

Spanish duo Pig&Dan, Kompakt favourite Guy Mantzur and Beatport chart-topping Brazilian Anna each contribute valiant efforts to the EP, but it's the offering from one of DT's favourite Swede's Jonas Rathsman that has really caught our attention.

Following on from the success of their Gully EP at the end of summer, Leftwing & Kody return to Moon Harbour with another firing collection of club cuts. 

This esteemed UK pairing have become synonymous with big, characterful and attention-grabbing house and tech tracks on labels like Suara, Relief and Truesoul. They are party starting DJ favourites across Europe and Ibiza, and always get maximum muscle in their beats. Their second offering on Moon Harbour proves that point once again. 

First up is the standout ‘Detuned,’ a raved-up number with busy claps and blasts of siren that will get hands in the air. Freaky bird-like sounds and roaming bass all suck you into this kinetic groove. Equally compelling is ‘Rock That’, with a snaking bassline that creeps about beneath rattling hits and toms. The cultured Do Not Sit on the Furniture label is back with a third fantastic EP, this time from label
and party boss Behrouz in collaboration with highly rated Spanish artist Squire.
Currently in the midst of a first proper season residency in Ibiza, Do Not Sit is a party and label that takes you on a musical journey. Magical melodies and deep grooves characterise it and are drawn
from 20 plus years experience from Behrouz, who is based in Miami but plays all over the world.
Wonderland is first here and is a nine minute opus that will send shivers up your spine. It has lush keys and chords draped over soft, rippling drums and is a classy track for those who like real
emotion. Honey On My Lips is a more deep, intimate tune that is cosy and personal and will have the floor falling all over each other as it journeys into a starry night sky.
Painted Walls is the third and final track and another excellent one. It has celestial multi-layered guitar chords ringing out into expansive open spaces as the shuffling drums do subtle, supple dances below.
This is another spell binding EP from one of house music’s most essential new labels.

Berlin-based duo Booka Shade, aka Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier, have carved out a reputation as one of the most celebrated electronic acts to come out of Europe over the past two decades. 

With their beginnings in Frankfurt and their sights originally on synth-pop, the duo Booka Shade quickly gained a strong following within electronic music, and in 2002 the pairing formed the now legendary dance label Get Physical Music (together with M.A.N.D.Y., Thomas ‘DJ T.’ Koch and Peter Hayo), where they would have a platform for their own music. 

Three years later, in 2005, their EP’s ‘Mandarine EP’ and ‘Body Language’ - the latter co-produced with M.A.N.D.Y. - launched Booka Shade into the stratosphere with both EPs becoming international successes, whilst the following years soon welcomed an extensive body of work featuring a combination of stand out albums and singles that quickly achieved further global success.

Since their break-through performance at Sónar in 2005, Booka Shade have earned huge recognition with their innovative live shows, even being named one of Resident Advisor's Top 5 live acts in the world in 2010. They have opened for legendary acts such as Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk, whilst headlining stages at the likes of Coachella, Glastonbury, Rock Werchter, and Red Rocks just to name a few. In recent years, the band has appeared amongst the likes of DJ Mag’s ‘Alternative Top 100 DJ List’ (2018), whilst their notable live sets have led to key mentions amongst a host of distinguished festival reviews and round-ups, including placement within DJ Mag’s ’10 Unforgettable Sets From The History Of Exit Festival’.

Booka Shade were also inducted into Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 Hall of Fame, having received strong support from the station throughout their careers, playing at both the ‘40 Years of Radio 1’ celebration with Annie Nightingale and the ‘20 Years of Essential Mix’ party, whilst also mixing Pete Tong’s ‘All Gone Ibiza’ compilation album. 

The duo’s fan base is in no way restricted to electronic music enthusiasts, with great success playing slots at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Lollapalooza, and more by utilising their massive crossover potential, which is as evident in their billings as it is in their remix credits, including acts like Depeche Mode, Moby, Hot Chip, Kings of Leon, Woodkid, The Knife and many more.

Add to the mix their Blaufield Music imprint, founded in 2013, and it’s clear and easy to see the pairing's musical knowledge not only as producers but also adept A&R’s, with releases to date on the imprint from both emerging and established talent alongside their own productions resulting in a string of releases and collaborations that can be regularly found amongst the upper end of Beatport’s Top 100 charts and championed by many of the industry’s biggest names.

Twenty years, dozens of EP’s and six albums later, Booka Shade have become more than a household name, they have become synonymous with the spirit which drives electronic music and have set a precedent to which electronic music is still held to today.
