Jim the Boss brings us "Dub So Nice", from his forthcoming "Dub-O-Tron 3000" EP, and nice it is indeed. This track is simply hypnotic. The use of effects makes it almost haunting. The delay work sets the tone for impending doom. The Hammond Organ tone is something from a horror movie.

Dubbed out arpeggio midi style sounds periodically pan around the room, taunting you to catch them.  But alas, they are quite evasive. Reggae legends Lone Ranger and U Brown unite with Don Goliath for the Future Roots 12" masterpiece, "Rock and Come On/Hail Up Jahoviah". This exclusively vinyl project is being released through Boom One Records vintage style, that is to say, in the dubwise fashion of the classic days of Roots and Dub Reggae, in which both sides of the EP include the original vocal track followed by dub versions. Three Full Tracks to each side on this 12" vinyl single, the main vocal track, the dub track, and the Melodica Version. The A-side is "Rock and Come On." This track is voiced by the classic Jamaican MC/toaster, Lone Ranger. Three verses of classic fire from Lone Ranger fill up the heavy Don Goliath produced riddim. As Lone Ranger rips through his classic cadences, you can hear him chanting "Wha!", "Bo!", and "Rrright" throughout the tune. The other two tracks on the A-side are the Dub version and the Melodica version, masterfully done by Don Goliath. Goliath uses a classic riddim construction method to create a rootsy frame work here. By utilizing heavy digital bass patches and modern electronic subtleties throughout, Don Goliath has created a wicked Rootstep tune that will appeal to reggae and electronic dance music fans alike.

The B-side, "Hail Up Jahoviah", is enchanted by Jamaican legend U Brown, along with a Dub version and Melodica version from Goliath. U Brown's very style helped to create and form the whole hip hop era of the last 30 years, as Americans heard more Jamaican chanting and toasting over riddim tracks. U Brown switches freely between singing and chanting while he rides along on this new style Rootstep riddim produced by Don Goliath. These two tunes are the epitome of modern Rootstep.

On my last tour in Japan I performed a set at the night club Zu-bar in Shibuya. The other DJs on the show that night opened my ears and mind to some of the most progressive and unique blends of dance music and digital rhythms I had yet heard. I was blessed to meet many of Tokyo's leading underground DJs like Shoichi Serigano and DJ Skull Pop where I was given the opportunity to sit in on their sets and add live instrumentation with electronic music. These new sounds from Tokyo's pulsating underground music scene were a heavy influence on my productions as I returned back to Philly. After collaborations with Ry Ry Joji and Katsuhito Teshirogi in Asagaya, I realized dancing and a passion for pushing forward the musical boundaries is the same in every language.

Xuluprophet - Land of the Slave - Boom One Records. Xuluprophet is a Psychedelic Funk/Reggae/Rock Jam Band out of Savannah, GA, a veritable phenomenon of high octane, groove laden party music. Founded in 2013 by Irish guitarist/producer Oisin Daly and South Bronx native songwriter Xulu Jones as an acoustic duo brought together by their mutual love of Reggae and Jimi Hendrix. Soon they added a drummer and eventually switched to electric guitars. This unique setup allows each guitarist to switch between bass and guitar live on stage which adds a fluid dynamic to their performances. Now a power trio with Rhett Coleman on drums, Xuluprophet has recently shared the stage with The Wailers and Passafire as well as headlining multiple festivals regionally. The groove heavy rhythmic style has its roots in Caribbean and Latin rhythms, while the dual guitarist sound has shades of 60’s Psychedelia, 70’s Funk, 80’s Rock, and 90’s Grunge. They have been compared to artists as varied as The Police, Jimi Hendrix, The Cure, Bad Brains, and Primus. Playing mostly dance and party music, the lyrical message is both political and spiritual. Drawing from their Reggae roots, they wish to influence the listener to reflect and better themselves and the world around them through the power of music and song. Be sure not to miss this unique and dynamic live band!

After embracing sound system culture in Galway, Ireland, Daly became obsessed with creating bass heavy dub riddims and introducing the sound to his new hometown of Savannah, Georgia. Colonial FX has released two EP's of remixes and has played multiple festivals in Ireland, as well as holding down a weekly residency in Savannah, GA. Constantly remixing and innovating, CFX is always looking for new avenues to bring his bass driven sound.

Released by Boom One Records, "Righteous Day to Stand Up" is the debut album from Colonial FX. Colonial FX fuses bass driven UK Steppers Reggae with aspects of Psydub, Dubstep, Drum and Bass, Dancehall, and House/Techno in this seven track LP. Colonial FX fuses bass driven UK Steppers Reggae with aspects of Psydub, Dubstep, Drum and Bass, Dancehall, and House/Techno in this seven track LP. Heavy bass and driving rhythms combine with analog and digital synths which ties together Daly's live guitar playing and use of samples to create a unique sound, with one foot in the UK sound system scene and one in his current home of USA's culturally diverse electronica sound.

Philadelphia’s reggae ambassador Timi Television (AKA Timi Tanzania) teams up with Indianapolis’s Anita Vokill to create four tracks of forward thinking electronic bass music infused with reggae and dub. “Rollin Off the Playground” touches on the sub bass groove of dubstep and halftime drum n bass. While “Sattalight Link” visits chopped up breakbeats, eerie atmospherics, and monstrous bass. “Playground” and “Take Out” both offer up social commentary on life in the city, all held together by Timi’s soulful croon and heartfelt vocals. Rounding out the EP is Boom One Sound System’s remix of “Sattalight Link”.

B. Davis really takes us back to a classic Jamaican roots feel with this release.  The track is accompanied by “Hustlers Dub” on the B side.  This is the Melodica dub version instrumental.
