While footwork culture originated in Chicago and is still primarily being championed by Chicago producers, DJs, and dancers, international artists like Marius Mevold AKA Slick Shoota have also been instrumental in bringing the sound to a worldwide audience by incorporating elements of other genres like jungle, drum & bass, and grime. His high-octane hybrid club productions are always recognizable by the frenetic pounding groove, rap and ragga vocal chops, and of course, his infamous “LET’S MOVE” tag. An official Teklife member since 2015, Slick Shoota has laid a foundation of strong underground relevancy, while also peeking into the more mainstream side of dance music here and there with a release on Diplo’s Mad Decent and a widely supported rave smasher bootleg of Hudson Mohawke’s “Cbat” that is still making the rounds on dancefloors and festival stages all over the world despite being released almost 7 years ago. For many electronic music fans getting more interested in uptempo dance music, Slick Shoota bridges the gap into the wonderful world of 160 bpm and beyond.

We’ve been huge fans of Marius’ work for the better part of a decade now, so it goes without saying that we’re hugely honored to have him on the Booms and Claps mix series. For “BnC Mix 042: Slick Shoota,” he delivers a 38 minute offering of club-ready originals, VIPs, edits, and remixes, many of which are featured on his most recent album release “VIP VAULTS.” The 20-track collection of largely never-before-heard tracks Slick produced between 2013 and 2018. BnC Mix 042: Slick Shoota

We are extremely excited to bring you the 46th installment of the mix series today, featuring the one and only Danny Corn of the Wake the Town crew. This mix follows two incredibly well received performances: early Saturday morning at Bass Coast last month, and opening for Om Unit in Portland this past weekend. We can safely say his sets are coveted everywhere he goes. In addition to his excellent taste as a DJ, Danny has also been in the studio working on some exciting new material with fellow Portlander, Chrome Wolves. Lucky for us, three tunes from this collaboration can be heard throughout the mix. Danny's refreshing take on bass music is always appreciated here at Booms and Claps, and this mix is a prime example of that. We hope you enjoy this as much as we do!

Today's installment in the Booms and Claps mix series comes to us from London's Lewis James in the form of a 47 minute turbo-charged high octane journey through halftime drum and bass beats, footwork, jungle, electro-influenced ghettotech and juke, and 160 bpm rave music. We've had our eye on Lewis for quite some time now, from his early self-released Bandcamp beats, to releases on the legendary Lowriders Recordings and Rua Sound, to his recent success with major uptempo bass music imprints like 1985 Music and Astrophonica Recordings, and we couldn't be more excited to see where he goes from here. From what we're hearing in this mix, it seems like he's taken an interest in the four on the floor 160 bpm electro sound that has been championed recently by folks like Fracture and Om Unit, and we certainly hope there's more to come from him in that vein. Today's installment in the Booms and Claps Mix Series comes to us from Bristol-based uptempo bass music producer Hyroglifics, and while most would consider him first-and-foremost a drum and bass producer, he's not quite so easy to categorize. He exploded onto the scene six years ago with his freshman excursion, "BINARY Vol. 1" on the widely respected Critical Sound label. This release took the world of "DnB adjacent" music by storm with two absolutely gully halftime 170bpm bangers ("Killamanaman" and "Bay City Ballers Club) that quickly garnered support from legends like Om Unit, Ivy Lab, Sam Binga, and Alix Perez.

Ever since then, he's been tracing the lines between drum and bass, hip hop, jungle, trap beats, dub, footwork, and everything in between, and has explored beyond his home at Critical Sound to Flexout Audio, Perez's 1985 Music, and Fracture's Astrophonica, achieved Red Bull Music Academy alum status, created a new beat music alias Rippps (with a release on the legendary Alpha Pup Records to boot) and toured all over the world. Most recently, his collaborative EP, "BS6"with Detroit-bred Sinistarr (BnC Mix Series alum!) was released on Sherelle and Naina's new London-based label Hooversound, one of the most exciting fresh imprints of the year.

While he came up in the drum and bass scene, Hyroglifics is certainly no stranger to other tempos and sounds. Today's offering travels through slappinin' electro and breaks, dubstep and grime, and ends up in 160-170 bpm rave territory that touches on ghettotech, jungle, beats, and bass. His classic well-sought-after dubplate collaboration with Fixate, "Daft" even makes an appearance, an unreleased iconic track that first started making the rounds at least 5 years ago. The mix is a targeted expedition into the realm of high-octane bass music, at 115% the whole 30 minutes through. Strap up and lock in for a wild ride on BnC Mix 049: Hyroglifics.

Cross-cultural connections are more valuable than gold in the music scene. Jungle and footwork are great on their own, but together? That's where the magic happens. R&B? Cool. Grime? Great. R&B/Grime fusion? Sign us UP. Rap? Yup. Rock? Yeah... Well, maybe we could have just skipped the 90's/2000's rap-rock era and the whole world would've been just fine, but you get my point.

LA-based (via NYC) Anna Morgan brings those cross-cultural connections to life through her work as a producer, DJ, label-head (shoutout Worst Behavior Recordings), promoter, and even fellow blog curator (The Footwork Jungle!!!). She draws on inspiration from all over the world, with a focus in high-energy and uptempo club music. Drum & bass, dancehall, electro, footwork, rap, afrobeat, ghettotech, dubstep, and wonky beat music all make appearances in the sphere of Anna Morgan's influence, whether it be a party she's throwing, a DJ mix she's piecing together, or a tune she's writing.

With today's offering, Anna uses our mix series as a canvas to blend all of those influences into an hour-long journey through her world of soundsystem culture and infectious energy. The work truly speaks for itself, so I'll leave it at that: we're proud to present BnC Mix 050: Anna Morgan.
