It's so sad  that we can not have gigs.  Musicians all around the world still have hard times due to pandemic.
I composed this song for my band, but the next gig is cancelled because COVID-19 infection is increasing again. So I present this song in one-man band style here .

Long time no see. Sorry that I couldn't respond to many kind comments and messages. I hope all of  you  are doing well.
 In Japan stifling days still last. In this situation it's my great pleasure to share my music on SC.
I believe pleasant wind will blow and soothe us soon. 
I've put many elements in this song . Typically American flavor, British hard rock,  funk, and so on. Journey of music in a haphazard way:)

Hearing The Wind Sing

Many bands are beginning to have gigs , and venues have come back to life again in my town. That's what we have been waiting for !
We realize how precious sharing music is ! through COVID-19 pandemic. 
I recorded this one-man band song in spare moments from gigs of my band. Playing with my band gives me many inspirations for composing.

Pocket Full Of Groove

Omicron is prevailing and has kicked out Delta. Some countries are changing their attitude against COVID-19. As a medical staff, I also think it’s reasonable to lighten the restriction because Omicron proved to be an attenuated strain.
But, woops, in Japan, the government begins to restrict our activities again! considering only the number of people who catch it while death toll is very small.
How many more times will we have to be confined!?
After cancelling our gigs, I elaborate on this new song.I wanted to make this song to free myself from feeling of despair, like going out to space.

Eternal Voyage

A friend of mine, an excellent singer Mr. Kodaka Schokichi aka Jumpin' Shokichi kindly permitted me to add some instruments to his song.
He likes to sing classic R & B songs and that is very nice. But I wanted him to sing his own original songs in Japanese. Why can songs touch our soul if the singer doesn't sing in his own language ? 
So I'm very glad he released the CD that contains his original songs ! He sang strumming the guitar without accompaniment except his own blues harp. I've really enjoyed his songs and naturally I played some instruments along  one of his songs. I was afraid that it might disrupt his song but he accepted what I'd done. He was delighted with this!

Greed always defeats reason. I could not imagine a dictatorial country would wage war in the 21 century. What did we learn from WWⅡ? 
Russia’s invasion into Ukraine is not something that just happens to other people. Japan is surrounded by dictatorial countries. Depending on the results of this war , they would think that military strength could change the situation advantageous to them. It's never acceptable.

2022 is almost over. Time flies. COVID-19 has distorted many aspects of our lives and confusion still continues in Japan. A lot of talented young musicians lost their chances because of strict limitations in venues. Japan is left behind while other countries have got their daily lives back.
Meanwhile war began. I hope people in Ukraine live in peace next year.

They may say it's war, but I don't think so. It's unilateral aggression by Russia. Ukranian people did not want to fight. They are desperately defending their country against brutal invader, Russia.

Time flies. It’s already mid February.
Most of the snow has started to disappear. Soon spring will come. In Japan March is the end of the fiscal year, when we meet newcomers and leave the old behind. I get somewhat sentimental.

Lament Of Sunflowers

This time  I intendedly made somewhat mechanical rhythm track using old sound modules such as Roland SC-88 and KORG T3 because it sounded fresh,  and I thought it might show to advantage the emotional guitar. Thanks always for a nice picture, Mr. Kozawa.

FOUNTAINS OF BLESSING

I like blues, rock, gospel etc. Whatever the genre may be, I love music that has passion in it. This song, starting with somewhat clumsy piano, reflects such music I’ve experienced . I hope you enjoy although It may be relatively restrained one.

The Cross In The Attic

This song  was inspired again by a photo which my friend had taken.
Canola flowers are illuminated by the moon. I hit upon the first melody seeing this mysterious photo.
In the last part I played the slide. I happened to have a very cheap junk SG type guitar. Its action was too high to play even with the bridge being set at the lowest. I thought maybe I could play the slide easier with this junk guitar. Fortunately my hunch was right:)

Hot summer was over. Now Japan is in typhoon season. After it’ over autumn will be coming. Time flies. I’m looking forward to seeing beautiful red leaves.

Blue Forest

Now in Japan, red leaves are at their best. Seasons go fast. They will wither soon with cold gusty wind. We Japanese always feel ephemerality of such beautiful scenery. The more it is fugitive, the more we love its beauty.
In this picture, which was taken by my friend, through the window of red leaves we can see Lake Biwa glowing under the setting sun . Seeing this, we imagine that those tree will be covered with snow in a month or two and the lake will show us another beautiful scenery.
I thought this picture would best reflect the atmosphere of my new song.

Through The Red

It’s still snowing in Japan. In spite of cold weather, there are some flowers that bloom covered with snow.
Those flowers tell us spring is on the way. It’s Japanese way of thinking that there are always some signs of the next season in the scenery we now see.

Waiting For Spring

Since I restarted my band last month, I’ve been engaging myself in composing songs for the band and practicing them with my bandmates.
Somehow I took time from my hectic days to complete this one-man band song.Because I couldn’t take enough time、I played and recorded little by little over a couple of weeks. When I realized I used many kinds of guitar depending on my mood.
The picture shows those guitars I played in this song.
From left to right, Vietnamese electric acoustic, Gibson LP studio, Vietnamese stratocaster, YAMAHA SAS1500, Godin nylon strings, Fender Japan Jazz bass.
All of these did good job for me:)

A Guitar Kinda Love

In Japan, the rainy season lasts from the beginning of June to mid-July. When I was young I didn’t like the rainy season at all. But now in my fifties, I like rain if it’s not too heavy. It often comforts and soothes me.

A Rainy Night

Mr. Mike kindly invited me to join his song. Listening to his track, I was instantly attracted by his authentic blues guitar and organ. I'm very honored to play solo in the latter half of the song.
Please listen to Mike's fabulous play. He plays an orthodox school blues guitar that I can't achieve. Following his play, I played rather rock taste guitar. You may sense the influence of Johnny Winter and Duane Allman in it.

Since last December my workplace had got into a mess due to stupid senior management. Stress built up, which kept me away from composing a new song, though I had several gigs and vented my frustration.
Recently things seem to go better and I began to work on a new song, when Jamie Rhind https://soundcloud.com/jamie-rhind kindly proposed collaboration. I’m very glad to have such a superb keyboard player as Jamie play solo on my track! You can hear his funky synth solo in the middle part of this song.

I was away from SC for these several months due to some bothering things . Quite hectic days! 
The busier I get, the stronger my passion for music becomes.  Although  I couldn’t have enough time to record my new songs , I was lucky to have had several exciting gigs with my bandmates. It’s my greatest pleasure to have gigs with them and have conversations with them through playing.
Now I’m very glad to be able to come back to SC and upload a new song today. 
For me there is no specific genre of music that confines me. I compose and play whatever makes me feel good. This song typically shows my fancy of  music. The first riff that has rock taste with swinging rhythm led me to play in different styles such as blues, jazz . 
I always enjoy playing the bass in the one-man band because it determines the groove of the song. I think this song especially owes its charm to the bass line though I don’t have enough skill:)

Don't Stop The Stomp

I usually hit upon a song while strumming the guitar. This song starts with chord progression using A note of the 5th open string as a pedal point. Typical two-five progression follows, which inevitably makes this song jazzy.
Jazz? Oh I'm quite weak in it :) I wish I could play jazz intuitively but I have not trained myself for it. Rather I can not help playing in rock fashion as you notice the guitar solo with distorted tone in latter half :)
In the middle part I wanted to reproduce the atmosphere of 70s' fusion by playing keyboard solo with Rhodes piano tone.
Now in Japan yellow leaves are at their best. Thank you Masanori for an excellent photo.

The Yellow Arcade

Here is my latest original song.　I realized that it's tough work to complete a one-man band song in triple time! Especially making drum track by tapping MIDI keyboards was challenging. Quantizing often makes it unnatural so I patted without quantizing and arranged the midi data meticulously:)
Playing the guitar is much easier!
In this song I mainly used a telecaster made by Fender Japan. I think sometimes the characteristics of the guitar makes me compose a melody in the way its sound is heard most beautifully. As a result this song has some gospel flavor.

Recently I'm very happy to have exciting gigs with my bandmates that give me inspirations. I wrote this song for one of my bands.

This famous gospel song has attracted me  since I was young. I like its simple and beautiful melody.
I arranged it for the slide guitar adding some R & B taste and uploaded several years ago. Now I remastered it with Lurssen Mastering Console software. I think it sounds much better now.

I had been playing in rock bands for more than 40 years, but my hearing problem forced me to give up having gigs in 2015. I had to avoid loud sound to rest my ears. So I concentrated on composing and recording at home. As my original songs heaped in my hard disk, I wanted to present them to others. That's why I opened my SC page.
Since I started this page, quite a few listeners have come and given me a lot of positive comments. Much more than I expected! I am very happy to contact many excellent musicians through SC. 
I was a bit surprised that some of SC members sent me mails telling that they had the same hearing problems such as tinnitus. It's crucial for us to protect our ears because once damaged it can not recover!
In 2016 I started to play with my band again wearing ear plugs to protect my ear. It seemed to go well and our band had several exciting gigs till July, when unfortunately our bassist succumbed to disease and he passed away in August 2016. I'm really sorry for loosing him and thank him that he played with us against bad health condition.
I hope he listens to my songs in heaven.
