Runaway

I wrote this song after my dad Passed away two years ago from a very rare form of cancer. As you can imagine, my whole world had been turned upside down and at the time it was the only way I could channel everything I was feeling into something important. 

I was lucky enough to spend the last couple of weeks with my Dad whilst he was in the hospital. My one and only regret from that time was the day he asked me to sing for him. My Dad was always so supportive of everything I did, he was such a driving force for me and my music, but I couldn't bring myself to sing and play in front of him in that situation, I was trying to stay strong for him, for my mum, for everyone and I knew I wouldn't be able to hold it together.

Growing up, my Dad and I never talked about emotions and never said "I Love You" until he was ill. I will never forget those important conversations and times we shared together in those last couple of weeks, it was all honestly and Love.

One of the last conversations I had with my Dad was on his very last day, we watched the Sunrise through the window together, he turned to me and said, "Is that the birds singing?" I don't know why, but for some reason, that line just stuck with me. He asked me how I was feeling about the whole situation and for the first time, I poured my heart out to him, I was completely honest with no barriers. He told me to write a song about it...

I hope that in some way listening to this song can help and/or comfort you, maybe you've lost a loved one or maybe you can relate to it in other ways. Sunrise is the hardest yet the most natural and honest song I've ever written.
