Cold Busted returns to familiar label artist Poldoore, born Tom Schillebeeckx, to release his new single “Sweet Memories,” featuring distinguished emcee Awon and DMC 2012 Team World Champion turntablist DJ Damented (of The Mixfitz). Based out of Belgium, Poldoore started producing at an early age and eventually his potential was realized by Cold Busted’s offer to release the debut L.A.X. EP. The pairing only grew stronger from there through many projects and compilation appearances that garnered much praise. Poldoore’s sound is about good vibes, creating warm atmospheres that blend funk, soul, lounge, and reggae with punchy drum breaks. Those are the building blocks for “Sweet Memories,” an effective standalone instrumental with lazy horns floating atop airy guitars and fluttering keys combining to create a laid-back atmosphere while fat bass and snappy drums work the neck out. The reminiscing rhymes of Awon, a figure in the new emerging ‘jazz hop’ scene, flow rhythmically while DJ Damented’s scratch skills add a next level vocal chop to the beat. Deciding to include this one in the crate should be easy, much like the cut’s vibe. &#13;

The EP is entirely produced by Fafu and features guest appearances from Eliki and Maffew Ragazino. The Dominican Diner EP was mixed by Fafu and mastered by John Sparkz.

Crème De La Crème

The initial thought that came to mind in the process of making “Blackcurrent Jazz 2” was to create a landscape of ideas that capture the truest essence of Jazz but that also embodied the purest and most authentic hip-hop feel. The original Blackcurrent Jazz album (released in 2001) was a great piece of work but for me was more a mesh of beats and breaks and sometimes with tracks that didn’t even lend to Jazz at all. This time around I wanted every single song to scream JAZZ!!! But still using a combination of Jazz breaks that give off varying vibes.

I wanted this album to be more polished, more distinguished and more discernable than 10 years ago. Smoother, more intricate and ultimately more of a thought through process to it. So I set about the production process which I knew would be huge, because I wanted to use additional beats for 20 second interludes to be used in between each main track, which then ultimately doubled my production load. I also knew that the main selections all had to musically jump out at me and I wasn’t going to start writing until I had found all the right beats that made me feel as if I have the right ingredients for a classic album.

And then it started. Hours of sampling, cutting, chopping, filtering, and pitch shifting, mixing and then mixing again. Then came the writing, recording and editing, which for me is a very lengthy and meticulous process. And finally after over 6 months work came “Blackcurrent Jazz 2: The Gold Reflection” subtitled to pay dues and respect to the golden era of hip-hop (the 90’s).

Ocean Dance [Arrival], produced by curator of the signature Bop Alloy sound, Marcus D, is an eargasmic collage of cool drums, smothered in warm bass, subtle keys and baritone vocals by Substantial. Vibrant horns & background vocals by Kokayi put the icing on this little slice of heaven, which Substantial describes as “70’s porn spliced with the best elevator music you’ve heard in your life.” He delivers rhymes about the affair we all share with the ocean when we’re in desperate need of a getaway. Describing his mistress with lyrics like: “You taste like tears, smell like freedom / Could’ve brought my cares and worries here but I don’t need em...” and “I like the way she move (move - move) / So I stop to say “Hey!” (Hey - Hey) / ‘Cause even though she’s blue (blue - blue) / She’s sweet enough to wave (wave - wave)”.
