Bensley – A name which has remained a talking point across the genre since the announcement of his exclusive signing to Ram Records. Heralding from the city of Toronto, known for being a hotbed for the drum & bass genre, Bensley has stood as an anomaly.

In its 20 year plus history, never before has the RAM imprint created a journey as unique as Bensley’s. If you scour the internet, you won’t find one single release, an upload or even any previous history on the producer. Yet all it took was a one single demo to attract the attention of the acclaimed electronic music label. The RAM HQ was instantly enveloped by Bensley’s technically adept and musical personality, with the demos blowing the roof off the Hornchurch office on first listen. 

Bensley ‘let the music do the talking’… Quite literally. On first listen to ‘Fandango’, a precursor for what’s yet to come, you’ll instantly tune in to why he was snapped up so quickly. His innovative composition appeals to even the hardiest of heads – but it also builds a bridge between the commercial and the underground.

Straight away, you can hear the heavily influenced tinkling of his jazz musician grandfather; Bensley is also an accomplished saxophone player, having traveled extensively with his school band. An artist who’s just as inspired by the contemporary sounds of Wilkinson and Loadstar, as much as jazz pioneers Dave Brubeck and Charlie Parker, the depth of his musicality goes deeper than a DAW interface.

Being a production line of carefully crafted composition with a meticulous production standard, Calyx & Teebee have delivered yet again.   'The Mindsweep: Hospitalised' will be released on October 30th on Ambush Reality/Play It Again Sam, and is a collaboration between Enter Shikari and London-based Hospital Records, who since 1996 have become one of the world’s foremost labels in drum & bass music. 
 
‘The Mindsweep: Hospitalised’ sees every track on Enter Shikari’s UK Top Ten album ‘The Mindsweep’ - released in January this year - reimagined by some of the most respected and cutting edge artists working in d’n’b today; including the likes of Metrik, S.P.Y,  Danny Byrd, London Elektricity (a coup in itself, with L.E’s take on ‘Dear Future Historians’ being their first remix in nearly three years), Keeno and more.

You know you’re getting older when the artists you’re watching emerge start to be younger than you are. Some people might find that a bit startling but as long as the talent coming through the ranks is producing music at the quality that Memtrix is we couldn’t care less how old he is.

A prodigious talent hailing from the Garden of England - that's Kent to you and me - the 19 year old producer has enjoyed an outstanding last 12 months, returning to London imprint Lifted Music for the release of his all conquering Voodoo EP and remixing the likes of Crystal Fighters, Le Castle Vania and Black Sun Empire.

Hooking up with Spor for 2015, he looks well set to carry his momentum through to the colder months of the year with their new collaborative single 'Darkest Hours' sure to be soundtracking your night as the mercury begins to fall. "Working with Spor has definitely been an eye opening and insightful experience" he explains via the press release before adding "but I think more than that it was just really fun. It always seems really natural and fluent in the studio and we bounce ideas off eachother really well I think. Obviously it's an absolute privilege for me to work with such a household name who's work I respect so much, and this release is something I'm really proud of and excited about."

With 'Darkest Hours' set to arrive September 14th via Sotto Voce and Lifted Music, we invited Memtrix to showcase his skills on the decks for a 30 minute mini-mix guaranteed to get you thawing out those boogying muscles.
