For years now, GREETINGS (Head of Boots & Legs Records) and Slumdog (Solstice, Glamorama) have hosted a series of Boot shaking, Gala fit parties embracing the Disco, House, and Italo we all crave. Pushing against the trend of fast beats and crazy bright screens at the rave, The Boot Gala harks back to the Studio 54 era (albeit a kitschy version) that sees a full runway, lights show, and sparkly gold & silver decor that invites partygoers of all creeds and backgrounds to dance the night away surrounded by the best of the best.

The Boot Gala has seen the likes of Skatebard (NOR) Donald’s House, Adriana, DJ Luv You, Myles Mac + many more grace the stage. The Boot Gala now hits the road with shows in Eora/Sydney and Tarntanya Wama/Adelaide to come alongside the typical winter series that Melbournians have come to rely on for their disco fix!

Norway x Germany. Two heavyweights go head to head for a belter of an EP.

There once were two sorcerers of synthesized sound, Named Skatebård and Lauer, most wondrously renowned, They journeyed to Geilo one effervescent night, With Bordello A Parigi shining strobe-light bright.

“Oh fiddle-de-dee with your Trollkraft and strings! What Norwegian-German vibrating bass brings!” They twostepped and tangoed through fog with such glee, While bongos and toms played a disco jubilee.


 
The incandescent synthlines went weaving so high, Like glow-sticks elating the dawning trance sky, The italo-indie-house masters did play, Till the heyday of rhythm drove genre away.

And what did they learn from this euphoric spree? That electronic wizards, when paired, disagree On everything proper, but somehow still make The most splendid nonsense for dancing’s sweet sake!

Trollkraft unites the mighty Skatebård and (Philip) Lauer, a Norwegian-German partnership.

Their self-titled release features two tracks of Italo inspired 90s Garage.

“One Night In Geilo” draws on 90s house and two-stepping melody.

PREMIERE: Skatebard & Lauer - One Night In Geilo [Bordello A Parigi]

'Mr. Computer sees two figureheads of Dutch electronics pay homage to the voice of electro disco, the vocoder. Figi and Luca dell’Orso team up to sing praise of a tool that has crossed genres and styles and give the little metal larynx deserved limelight on their own three track theatre. Rumbling bass is shot through with crisp snaps in the title piece, warbling vocals rising as keys dance in this wonderful collaboration. Production across the 12” is beautifully clean and sharp, allowing the rich analogue sound and robotic lyrics to be fully appreciated. Of course, as happens with the vocoder, those lyrics are just that shade of bittersweet. That brooding quality is used to full effect by Luca dell’Orso in “Fire with Fire.” A bold and daring melody is countered by a tale flecked with sorrow, the brightness and immersion of synths contrasted by the filtered and fractured human voice. Figi flies solo for the finale. “Moonlight (Vocoder Version)” dips words in a thick mechanical syrup, a story of burning love recanted to moonbeam rinses and bending disco bars. A true celebration of man and machine.'

Returning to the Bordello, and the seven-inch, is Real Velour. This secretive figure reappears with two tracks of indie dance that bend and re-shape elements of italo disco, minimal pop and synth wave to create an utterly unique experience. Sleazy basslines and tropical percussion give way to heavily vocodered words in “Lover”, machine amor breaking to spoken human voice as melodies twirl. The romance described is one of passion, of friendship and of fidelity; but, with a hint of control. Clever and addictive, the composition cherry-picks bittersweet sounds to depict this relationship. The flip, “Look What You’ve Done”, maintains the candystore keys of the A-Side; the tone shifting as lyrics adopt a brazen and fortified vigour. It appears maybe that the promises of “Lover” have been shattered. While the love story turns to hurt feelings and regret, Real Velour keep the energy high to revel in the final break-up.

In his own words, The song “Otdavali Molodu” (“They Gave the Young Bride Away”) is one of the first and most striking hits by the Soviet VIA (Vocal-Instrumental Ensemble) “Ariel,” arranged by Valery Yarushin based on a traditional Russian folk tune. The foundation of the piece is a traditional folk melody, but Yarushin infused it with rock intonations, which gave the ensemble its distinctive and recognizable style. Thanks to this song, Yarushin earned the respect of rock musicians, folk enthusiasts, and even academic audiences.

Why is the song important?

It’s a perfect example of the synthesis between folk motifs and modern musical forms: folklore + rock, an unconventional genre for a VIA. The song captures the spirit of its time, the 1970s, the heyday of Soviet folk rock and a period of musical boldness.

Thanks to this track, “Ariel” transcended the borders of Chelyabinsk and even the USSR, becoming recognized both across Eastern Europe and within the Soviet Union.

“Otdavali Molodu” is not just a hit by “Ariel” — it’s a symbol of an entire era: the beginning of the ensemble’s musical evolution, a successful example of folk-rock fusion, and a song that truly influenced listeners and the development of the Soviet music scene.

"A betrayal is an unexpected twist. A moment of schizophrenia where the world is turned upside down. We feel the curvature of the earth and it becomes explicit to us that there is something on the other side of our world that we didn't know. Or that we don't really know our world as we thought we did. It feels like a wobbling of the ground on which we tread, frantic, torn and passionate at the same time. But we can also betray ourselves. We betray ourselves by taking different paths that lead to places we did not think of. How does a betrayal sound, how does it feel, in what frequencies and energies does it vibrate?

Ultimately, what is there is always an unforeseen.
"Traiciones" plays with the idea of what we can feel when we feel betrayed, but also that the tracks themselves betray us, by taking different paths than expected, by changing the bpm in the middle of the track, or by promising a track that will never exist."
