As head of Italian (centric) Slow Motion label and through his own productions and remixes, Franz Scala has been pioneering the retro-futuristic aesthetic of club culture weaving together elements of proto-house, wave and Italo for the nuovo contemporary dancefloor long before it's current vogue. Now alongside Bordello A Parigi, and supported by Sameheads, Slow Motion presents Scala's euphoric debut LP Mondo Della Notte.

Another powerful release lands on the mighty British label NEIN Records: “Back On The Motorway” is the fruit of the interesting collaboration between none other than Montessori and Lusca (SXDNS216), two skilled and respected Mexican artists who decided to join forces for the first time ever to bring to life a couple of darkness-infused bangers. On the remix duty: Bucharest-based producer Valentin Gabriel Pandelescu aka Eddie Lanzat contributed with an exciting interpretation of the title track.

With recent appearances on HEARec, Nothing Is Real, and Play Pal Music, Montessori impresses with a refined ability of seamlessly gathering Alternative Rock, Post-Punk, and New Wave elements in his productions, while Lusca draws attention due to his more acid and intricate sonority whose result can be found on vital imprints such as Innisfallen, Golden Soul, and NEIN itself.

Eddie, in turn, joined the party with his characteristic cosmic/dark-matter-soaked favourite concoction – this time incremented with some Industrial garnishment to spice things up. His debut on Sir Neil Parnel’s roster couldn’t be more crowned, we dare say.

Back for round two, mysterious imprint, MILF Recordings arrives with another threesome of perfectly sensual dubs from your favorite producer, “Unknown Artist.”  
Kicking off the EP, “Guilty Desire”, sets the dark tones early, with your traditional disco-tech syncopated bass line, over classic drums, both elements that now begin to feel like a familiar theme for MILF.  The track begins modestly, and then evolves into a ghostbusters-esque middle section, before closing out with a swirling, luxurious, analog filter sweep, another element that starts to feel like a key part of the label’s overall sonic aesthetic.  “Infinitits,” the EP’s second track, once more, takes the slower approach, bringing the tempo down below 110 bpm, and relying on the oscillating bass to slowly reel you in, while flanging, stereo, elements are added in a leisurely, hypnotizing, manner, over the track’s 7 minute downtempo journey.  With only a few select elements, the piece succeeds in giving off a grooving, “minimal disco” feel; A fitting ode to the top heavy.  The final track, “Don d’Orgasmes”, perhaps the heaviest of the three, simply due to the absolutely massive sub bass tones, and the only track on this particular EP to use what appear to be actual sex samples (remember MILF001?), provides another effective channel for visceral dance moves at your favorite, local fetish themed rave, or party.  While the three works clearly have a retro influence, the third, in particular, gives off an especially specific “80’s era electro” feel, again, due to the spot on synth programming.  All together, MILF002 delivers another set of tastefully racy, though still surprisingly easy to enjoy, dance floor grooves, as always, intended for mature audiences, only.

Meandering synths make for an eerie late night vibe as glistening glassy melodies hang in the air next to prickly 303s. Roy Mills brings broken beat energy and a twisted cosmic edge to his version of of the track.

As head of Italian (centric) Slow Motion label (and international artist sister imprint, Wrong Era), and through his own productions and remixes, Franz Scala has been pioneering the retro-futuristic aesthetic of club culture weaving together elements of proto-house, wave and Italo for the nuovo contemporary dancefloor long before it’s current vogue. Now alongside Bordello A Parigi, and supported by Sameheads, Slow Motion presents Scala’s euphoric debut album Mondo Della Notte.

A homage to the world of the night where Franz plies his trade. Solid production and understanding of the various references informing the contemporary dancefloor imbues this set with a quality of permanence. Each track clocks-in at around the seven minute mark accommodating all Scala’s retro influences  providing the space for walls of sounds to expand and unfold along these infectious rhythm voyages.

Industrial guitars signal the title track’s intent while ethereal vocal snippets escape the machines hailing to the listener through densely effected, spacey drums blurring the boundaries between disco and wave. Stelle’s cross-continental tunnel trip takes the listener to a darkened dancefloor. Flickering light emerging by way of rapturous synths complementing each other in short radiant bursts resulting in a steady, off-kilter workout that wouldn’t sound out of place during the latter years of The Paradise Garage. Cometa’s urgency hurtles through the void towards it’s destination gaining momentum with each synth stab and chorus leaving the impression you’re listening to some long lost classic that just collided with the planet. Dreamline a rhythm dense Chicago influenced jam packed with desolate, metallic strings; whispered, twisted vox, and haunting phrases. Rising from a swamp Chrono startles the listener, the track’s infectious trippy patterns reminiscent of the hazy trance that occured when clubbing collided with guitars at the dawn of the second summer of love. Museum of Illusion comes at you like John Carpenter scoring a heavy giallo soundtrack. The artist’s trademark tough, italo-informed drum workouts are best illustrated by Scala’s rework of One Way Love. The composition’s rhythms’ morphing into a darker proto-house framework with a tougher edge than it’s previous incarnation. Gladio’s hypnotic tribute to the foundational cyber-funk of Detroit ends this trip into the nether world of strobes and speakers, a sword-edged machine conversation between a measured motor-city bass and responding off-world hardware, the tracks warm undertones taking you inwards beyond the industrial world these sounds originally emerged from.

It is a tribute to Franz’s careful, attentive approach to his love of music that, for the first time, after a decade running Slow Motion, he finally releases his own productions through his own label. Mondo Della Notte, a collection of contemporary mutations grounded in previous era’s, is the culmination and testimony to his artisanal dedication to his own creative output and his obsessive enthusiasm for what moves the dancefloor. Italian producer, DJ wizard ; Franz Scala has a knack for 80's fueled releases awash with modern sensibilities, his Italian-centric but Berlin based label Slow Motion, weaving proto-house and Italo wave together for Italian-born producers, while Wrong Era is for international artists. Slow Motion & Bordello A Parigi with the support of Sameheads are joining forces to release Scala’s euphoric debut Album “Mondo Della Notte”, which translates to ‘World Of The Night’. 

The LP leads into gorgeous synths and psychedelic-disco dips are brought forward with infectious enthusiasm on the 8-track double vinyl, with each track sitting around the 7-minute mark so as to make room for all of Scala’s retro nods. The title track is a bountiful disco wave marathon; blending heavenly vocal snippets and infectious synth lines in a bold Euro-romance dream. ‘Gladio’ is a hypnotizing affair with a firm nod to Detriot, weaving between the hard-hitting Free Style cut “Museum of Illusion” and the jam-packed Chicago-house track “‘Dreamline”. 

Scala’s rework of ‘One Way Love’ infusing trippy new beat vocals with a steady proto-house step, whereas “Stelle” is strictly Paradise Garage with ethereal sound design and catchy synth design. Built like an encapsulating treasure trove of Scala’s Italo influences, the record is flawless for the dance floor or driving on an Italian highway.

Curated by respected British artist REES, Paradiso Records is famous when it comes to discovering hidden talents who deserve to be heard and releasing their works to our delight and appreciation. This time, the label presents Belgrade-based DJ and producer Ivan Rapaić. He started his music career in 2017 as a member of the duo Vietmens and had some interesting releases on Extravaganza, Smart Phenomena, Aletheia, and Asli Music. Flying solo now, he launches his new project Rapaik and makes his debut with a two-track EP called “Space Gangster”, both pack a punch of high energy melodies and nostalgia, showcasing Ivan’s proper production skills.

The tune we chose to premiere, “Electric Orgasm”, is more melodic – but more energetic – than the title track. The beautiful piano layer, the percussive elements, the throbbing bass line, and the retro-ish synth layer deliver a must-have piece for the lovers of the so-called Indie Dance scene.
