One of Stockholm’s finest exports, Elfenberg arrive at Bordello with four slices of synthesizer goodness. The duo open with “Forever Alone”. A cruising arpeggiator steers its way through glistening snares, rolling kicks and classic italo vocals. Night falls in the jungle “Conga Coronation”. The treetops bristle with birdsong, thickets of bongos, toms and rain sticks lead a path to dawning melodies. A wonderfully textured percussive piece, the track is intricately carved and demonstrates the diversity and depth of Elfenberg. The disco dipped futurism of “Sphere Of Missing Out” follows. Echoes of “Conga Coronation” rhythms are countered by beaming synth bars and vocoder lyrics with the Swedish pair pushing for the floor. “Cosmic Tribune” is the curtain close. Astral chords, spiralling key shifts and incising drums coalesce in this space inspired finale. A truly stunning debut from this talented partnership.

or Maloca's 9th installment, Le Motel returns to his own imprint and joins forces with UK's versatile pidgin rap experimentalist Magugu. After their 2021 Shoalin collaboration, these 2 prolific artists embark on a new musical voyage. Their upcoming 4-track EP “Kindness Weakness” carefully intersects Bass, UK Garage, Grime and Jungle.

Magugu is a Nigerian poet who fluently unifies Afrobeat, Dancehall with Grime and Drum and Bass. While performing Magugu raps in Pidgin, which is an English-based creole language spoken in Nigeria. For more than a decade he's been making a name for himself as a Cardiff-based artist with a distinguishable raw voice. After numerous releases on his own imprint GUGUGANG Records, the Pidgin Rap Guru also released on cutting-edge labels like Deep Medi Musik and Critical Music and has worked with significant artists like My Nu Leng, Phase and Chad Dubz.

On Topper is a Jungle/Baile anthem about reaching goals in life, regardless of who steps in your way. Blend is about being an individual that doesn’t fit in with the crowd. Everyone should make their own decisions. Kindness Weakness refers to the fact that some people view kindness as a weakness. Yet everybody has had their share of dark moments too. The final track portrays the softer side of the duo's artistic versatility. A laid back UK Garage groove accompanied by Magugu's soothing voice. Let me down represents finding inner peace and creating your own happiness because in life there are too many people who will let you down. This one goes out to making a promise to yourself and never giving up.

Launched in 2020, Maloca Records aims to bring together an international network of artists. Maloca Vol. 1, featuring tracks by Nick León, OMAAR, DJ JM, Dengue Dengue Dengue, Coen, DJ N.K. and Tsongo. Maloca has also released solo EP's from Howie Lee, Farsight, Griffit Vigo, DJ JM and Yuto Takei.

Timothy 'Heretic' Clerkin puts the soup and tweed to one side and goes full Orbital with 'Execute'

Having recently put out music from Bawrut and Ivan Smagghe, Ransom Note Records are back with a new EP from Timothy ‘Heretic’ Clerkin. Home to three dancefloor stormers + one insane remix from Marlon Hoffstadt, the Serenade EP is chock full of breakbeats and gurgling acid lines and twiddly little synth bits.

What do we know about Timothy ‘Heretic’ Clerkin then? Well, we know he’s released on labels including Tusk Wax and Rotters Golf Club, both as Heretic and as one half of Eskimo Twins. We know he was once crowned the fastest barman in West Yorkshire. And we also know two of his great passions in life are soup and tweed. Even in the summer heat.

The latest track from the EP to see the light of day is ‘Execute’, a demolition tool that harks back to the halcyon days of peak Orbital. It’s already been rinsed by the likes of Andrew Weatherall, who closed Panorama Bar with it last month and reportedly tore the roof off.

“I was playing around in the studio with a Fender Rhodes one day”, Timothy explains of the track’s genesis, “putting it through various amps and filters, then resampling it - that's how I came up with the main rave stab riff. As that part is played by hand and quite human, I wanted the rest of the instrumentation to be very mechanical and programmed, which is where the title comes from.”
