After just 6 months since first seeing Big Yawn perform, we are thrilled to welcome them to the Research family. A compelling prelude to their debut album "No!" due out in late 2019.

Over six years the Melbourne-based group has evolved, with members of the band running various releases through label and collective Fallopian Tunes. As of 2019, Big Yawn had become a four-member music group, motivated by a history of studio production, prolific collaboration and quality hangout time.

The groups freshest effort 'Skin Rat/Thomas' captures the band performing live in the studio, and it's typical Big Yawn: fat and punchy low-end bass; drums and live drum processing; delay fx samples; thick syrupy synths. 'Skin Rat' is a hyperbolically dubbed out, tongue in cheek, magnetic blend of UK garage, footwork and breaks. And 'Thomas' takes cues from a slightly damaged post-punk sound, amplifying a brittle and sinister type of atomic porn-funk.

Limited to 200 copies. Hand numbered and housed in a screen-printed sleeve, artwork by Julian Hocking.

Getting lost is an art. Losing oneself among the winding streets of an unexplored town or losing oneself to an overwhelming sensation requires one to let go. To forget. To not look forward. To not seek. To not pay attention. To stop time. To disappear. For a music lover, getting lost in the music is a sacred ritual; it's a conjuring tricking that pushes the listener from their listening chair and into the universe created by the artist. 
Bas Grossfeldt's Lost in Sensation is perfectly named: you start the track in a listening chair, with pads, percussion, and other elements softly flowing into your ears and then…woosh…elements disappear…your chair - gone…your stereo - kaput..your ears - cant feel them. You will just find yourself floating, along with the music, blissfully lost. Yes, it's that kind of a track. Give it a whirl but don’t schedule anything after the track: you wont make it. Expect to be lost and expect to enjoy the disappearance.

For the 13th episode of our international podcast series we are very happy to present you @Aspetuck , a talented producer and a marvellous selector coming from the States, born in the green Vermont, based in L.A.
He has built for us a delicious 2h journey that starts with an eclectic intro and go deep in a blend of contemporary house sounds. Sometimes more electronic, sometimes more classic, sometimes deep and minimalistic, sometimes melodic and soundscaping, but with a consistent thread focused on a lovely introspective but positive attitude.

#013 A taste of: Aspetuck (This Is Our Time / Cairo Xpress)

We often find there are two types of artists. One internalises their process, endlessly perfecting their work while finding the endpoint a massive hurdle, and in turn producing immaculate yet very little art. The other is continuously inspired, so full of ideas they can barely work fast enough to articulate them all. The art becomes by-product of their larger trajectory and not just a collection of endpoints. Lord Of The Isles a.k.a. Neil McDonald seems to be both. He’s always in an evolving state of process where work is constantly shed to make way for a new layer growing beneath, yet he holds his cards closely, cherry-picking when and with whom he releases that work into the world.
Neil is simply prolific. In 2016 he shared with us a vast catalog of unheard beauty, which over a long span of time was collaboratively shaped into his debut album 'In Waves'. In the span between the album release and now, Neil has performed on a number of ESP Institute label showcases from Los Angeles to Amsterdam to Berlin, and released a few efforts with our peers, but all throughout he’s been holed up working on his sophomore album [sigh]. Though patience has become a sort of meditation during this global upside-down, we couldn’t help but squeeze out an interim release to uphold the fantasy. So, four years after the release of 'In Waves', we’re proud to present a very long-winded follow-up single for the album’s monster track 'Skylark'. Accompanied by a previously unreleased album cut entitled 'OmniMulti', the single also touts two glorious remixes; a sunkissed version by fellow esteemed Scotsman Linkwood and an atmospheric dismantling by the Melbourne hopeful Tourist Kid. You see, good things come to those who wait.

Metropolitan Soul Museum (MSM) son Nick (ex Mock & Toof) y Filippo. La pareja se conoció en 2012 cuando Filippo le envió música a Nick para que la firmara con su sello Teng recién nacido. Desde entonces trabajaron juntos en el desarrollo del sello, lanzando artistas como Neville Watson, Paul Mac, Nubian Mindz, Craig Smith y, por supuesto, el proyecto en solitario de Nick, Akra.

A partir de 2014 empezaron a hacer música juntos y comenzaron un nuevo proyecto llamado Metropolitan Soul Museum o MSM. En 2015, lanzaron su primer disco MSM001 en Hivern Discs en tareas de remezcla justo antes de firmar su próximo disco con Toy Tonics. Su EP Tesla contó con un remix de Tuff City Kids y ha recogido apoyos como Roman Fluegel, Tom Trago, Lo Shea, Detroit Swindle, Bwana, Bosconi Records, Chaos In The CBD y más.

 Ahora están a punto para lanzar un disco en Rawax y una pista en Vancouver's Normals Welcome. Lo que hacen en el estudio también lo hacen en vivo en el escenario tocando en vivo y en formato libre con cajas de ritmos analógicas, maschine, teclados y todo un arsenal de juguetes musicales de alto voltaje.
