MCR-T has been part of [selected] for quite some time now. Back in the day he was still performing under his moniker MCNZI, which he has now solely dedicated to hiphop and its branches. With his involvement in the collective Live From Earth he has solidified his standing in Berlin’s underground scene. His ambivalent approach of breaking through genre barriers and their conventions has manifested in his electronic music. For the sixth [selected] release he presents „Astral Sonic Aria”, his very own takes on the techno genre.
„Just Run” unites everything that the perfect MCR-T track needs – minimalistic percussion, a catchy bassline and of course the unmistakable vocals of the Berlin native. The hiphop and ghetto tech influences cannot be denied.
„I’m MCR-T, I’m the first man on mars”. The very first line on „Mars Defense System” prepares its listeners for what’s ahead. The shaky yet static acid line is being pushed by modest synth accents and an unpretentious rhythm section. You better be ready for takeoff.
The whistling synths on „Final Fantasy", the EPs third track, are piercing as the hypnotizing acid and distorted vocal put a spell on you. Again the stripped down percussion does its job and rolls amen break like through space and time.
Berlin based producer Regent takes „Final Fantasy” into his hands and gives it the proper techno treatment. In true [selected] fashion the kickdrum rolls with unstoppable force as the vocals hails from another dimension, creeping forward from the realm of shadows.
For the EPs last track MCR-T teams up with fellow LFE artist DJ Gigola to take the record’s spirit one step further. „Fantasia” features a sensual vocal over seductive pads that develop in tantalizing ways. The short acid bursts as well as the junge like ambience finalize the seductive aura.
