Next up on Carhartt WIP Radio is DJ and producer @djnobu_bitta. For almost two decades, he plays a pivotal role in the development of Japan's electronic music scene, constantly pushing the limits of techno in his DJ sets and at his long-standing party serial “Future Terror”. 

Since 2001, he has also released an array of music, comprising ambient, abstract industrial, house, and techno on imprints such as Rush Hour’s sub-label No 'Label', Kobe-based Grasswaxx Recordings, and his very own label, Bitta, launched in 2012. 

For Carhartt WIP Radio, DJ Nobu prepared a Bitta mix that is both “unique and psychedelic" in order to give the listeners the full flavor of his very special mind-expanding techno craftsmanship. As ever, we also sat down with this month’s host, to chat about the first records he bought, his ongoing "Future Terror" party series, and his favorite spots in his hometown Chiba. After starting the mini Dekmantel Selectors podcast series last year, we couldn’t resist continuing it with artists from this year's line-up. In the next couple of months, we will release 5 podcasts by some of our favourite artists. This year’s podcast theme is all about 'another side of me', wherein the artists show another side of theirselves.

Last but not least in this year’s Selectors podcast series is longtime Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann, who has brought his penchant for dark, stripped-down and raw techno to many Dekmantel events over the years. With a steady, masterful touch behind the decks, Dettmannn never fails to whip us and the dancefloor into a frenzy, which is exactly why we keep tapping his talents again and again. Though, this year
Dettmann takes another road at dives deep in his pre-techno period with the brand new Selectors compilation(including tracks from Cabaret Voltaire, Martin Dupont, Twice A Man and Fad Gadget)an opening set at Dekmantel Festival and a performance at Dekmantel Selectors in Croatia.

Just as with his Selectors compilation, Dettmann shows another side of himself with this mix. “My Selectors compilation is a labor of love: a collection of songs that have not only long been out of print or never released on wax, but which also served as my artistic foundation – as well as for Techno at large. The Selectors podcast on the other hand has a similar vibe but an entirely different intent. I think of it as an addition to the compilation, with music not included on the actual release. But more than that, it flows like an updated mixtape or a collection of music that I'd record for people I’m close to. The podcast is continuous listening, a fitting soundtrack for a night drive or for work. Importantly, it's music that influenced me when I was a teenager – and beyond. In other words, it's a personal affair.”

For our 238th Truancy Volume, we welcome one of techno's elite, Peter van Hoesen. As a producer and DJ, his evolution through the genre has been well documented via releases on Tresor, Curle and his own label Time To Express. Masterfully executed and prolific in output, Peter has always been just deeply concerned with the exploration and development of forward-pushing club sounds. We caught up with Peter to discuss his new label venture Center 91, as well as the references and warehouses experiences of the 90s rave scene that led to informing its first release Opal Balance. Wanting to return to his roots and integrate that cutting-edge Belgian attitude back into his DJ sets and productions, the four track EP sees Peter take those formative influences and provide his own contemporary take on it. Inspired by a string of shows in Medellin this year, Truancy Volume 238 takes on a similar narrative, albeit drawing more from an '80s crop of electronic music and artists. Expanding through a mixture of EBM and New Beat, whilst slowly working up to full-on hypnotic techno, this is Van Hoesen at his best, giving us depth in electronic music that can only come from years of dedication.
