Beginning our week is a special feature from audiovisual explorer  Boris Acket off his first official solo offering 'Home' on dutch imprint De Lichting. Up till now, his career has been marked by more cerebral project-oriented work, but this multi-chapter ambient album manifested from a very personal headspace. We are pleased to share with you 'Shadow of Monstera Deliciosa', one of 7 extended cuts from this very deep multi-sensory body of work.

Boris Acket is a contemporary artist, composer & director specialized in multidisciplinary projects within music, installation-art, performance & film. Acket operates as a conductor of creative processes, residing within complex systems in which artist, space & medium connect as one. His works and performances were exhibited at NXT Museum, Muziekgebouw aan het IJ, Amsterdam Dance Event, De School, Down The Rabbit Hole, Wildeburg, Lowlands, Van Gogh Museum, Frame Lab & DGTL Festival and featured on Resident Advisor, NRC, Volkskrant, Het Parool, Subbacultcha & 3voor12. Boris Acket’s first official solo offering home is a significant departure from his previous work. Up till now, his career has been marked by more cerebral project-oriented work, but this multi-chapter ambient album actually manifested from a very personal headspace. 

Acket met visual artist Vincent Rang last year and in their mutual acquaintance, he found out Rang’s work had a lot in common with his own. Like with Acket’s use of field recordings, Rang works with materials he’s only able to control to a certain extent. By manipulating substance, color and placing, he’s essentially creating these living underwater paintings. These ‘aqua-ecosystems’ are nevertheless bound to the laws of physics, gravity and nature, which is precisely the point.

2019 was the year of breakthrough for Amsterdam-based talent and De Lichting staple Eversines. Continuing on his ascension, we’re chuffed to welcome him to the fold with ‘Plooi’ – a stupendous mini sonic odyssey of sorts, taking us from vaporous skylines to brightly hued seascapes. Both captivatingly melodic and kinetic to the full, the four tracks composing the backbone to Eversines’ new jaunt into elegiac dance territories work their magic in the gap betwixt zen-like atmospherics, velveteen acid, sun-bleached electro and chiseled breaks that step up to the plate.

Whilst the OG version of ‘Plooi’ eases us into a shape-shifting environment, swinging the pendulum between nu-age infused / Sino-flavoured harmonics, lysergic bass phrasing and muscular breaks straight out the UK rave scene’s heyday, the remix from De School resident DJ Oceanic alters the original into a subaquatic dub weapon, navigating its way across frothing and bubbling synth lines to emerge in geysers of thermal bleeping and rhythmic outbursts. A more jacking affair, ‘Efbol’ carves out a lane of its own in between angular techno and playful, retro-laced electronica a la KLF meets James Holden in his ’Idiots Are Winning’ days. Completing the set on a more understated note, ‘Missing’ in collaboration with RDS promises to fill your headspace with thoughts of beauty and quiet. Merging FX-dipped piano chords, laid-back junglism and heavily verbed-out envelopes to form a well unique piece of ambient lushness, Eversines ushers us into a world of vibrant musical rapture, nestling away from standardized tropes and patterned behaviours.
