within the top five songs (in your category) in the previously held contest.

Even though you did not "win" the top placement within your category, you
still can benefit from your "Finalist" placement. The Finalists' songs will
be sent out to our music resources including labels, publishers, promoters,
management companies and more.

 Attached is a “Distribution Permission Agreement” that simply states that you
actually wrote the song yourself and that you are allowing Song of the Year to
distribute your song to our resources for further consideration. You can also specify
who you do "not" want us to send the song to on the form. In other words, if you
already have a manager, then you can exclude that option from the list. Our
resources always like to review the top songwriters in the contest. We provide
them with your contact information. If they have further interest in you or your
song they will contact you directly. Generally our resources will contact the
songwriter anywhere between 6-12 weeks if there is further interest in the
material or the writer.

Placing as a Finalist does not limit your chances of winning an upcoming competition.
