Whatever you're listening to — whether it's acoustic or electric, roots or futuristic, underground or pop — if you listen closely, you'll hear traces of the sonic signatures of Daniel Lanois.

What's more, he's still experimenting as eagerly as he ever has, creating music as beautiful and new as ever. It's his refusal to sit still and a constant hunger for new ideas and techniques that has defined both his work as a renowned producer and as a solo musician — most recently on the album Player, Piano.

Lanois joined us in the Gumbo Kitchen for a conversation.

Born in New York on 18 September 1968 and moved to Norway in 1973. Studied classical guitar parallelly playing the electric guitar in several bands as a teenager. Music studies followed in the early 90s alongside performing professionally ever since. Bjørn has a Ph.D. in music performance, participated in more than 150 released albums, and played around 1000 concerts on four continents as a guitarist, artist, or producer. Bjørn changed the musical direction during the 2000s, focusing on composition and sound art, which has resulted in several self-initiated albums. His previous album, Time and Mass, is a solo album recorded in participation with Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. New album, "Fourth Wave and The Moon" coming 30 August 2024.
