The Right Effect (Stereo MC’s) + Don’t Cha (Pussycat Dolls)

Housed up rework of a rare Australian Disco/Funk track from 1978 that I was lucky enough to find the 45 of recently. The original is a jerky and guitar heavy funk jam with lots of vocal. I stripped it right back and focussed on the groove from the intro, some guitar licks here and there throughout the tune, and parts of the break and vocal off the outro (which sound very Crown Heights Affair I think). I wanted to make something for housier cats, and maybe capture some of that wild abandon from that era in there too. Hope you like it, and thanks for the support as always.

On April 19th, DJs for Climate Action (DJS4CA) present the second annual EARTH NIGHT; an initiative harnessing the energy of the global nightlife scene to raise awareness and funds for climate action. Taking place in the week leading up to Earth Day, the team will release an impressive music compilation and sponsor parties in Brooklyn, Berlin and beyond to shine light on the challenge facing our planet and the unique role musicians can play.

This year DJS4CA launch EARTH NIGHT RECORDS with a compilation that gathers new music from over 50 artists from 12 countries including Simon Meija (Bomba Estereo), Infinity Ink, Nicola Cruz, Little Boots, and many others. It will become available for pre-order exclusively through Bandcamp starting March 11th, and tracks will drop every week leading up to the full release on 4/19.

To show our support for such an important initiative, we are sharing one of the songs from the compilation today. By happy chance, it just so happens to be from Boltings Bits fave Bosq! Titled "Many Hands," the Colombian-based maestro describes this tune as, "[...] a mix of rhythms and styles from around the world, and a representation of many simple pieces coming together to create a solution even when the setbacks mean you have to start over and rebuild again […]”

Poignant, yet resolute, this quote not only encapsulates the feel of the track but also represents the valiant efforts of the DJs and organizers from around the globe who are joining forces to raise awareness around climate change - hopefully compelling governments and corporations alike to implement solutions to solve this imminent problem. Having launched just last year, you can rest assured that this will not be the last EARTH NIGHT and that DJS4CA are going to keep fighting the good fight until this battle is won!

@bosqmusic "It was a genuine pleasure to work on this record, there was such an abundance of material to work with and amazingly played parts that I wanted to highlight, that the hardest part was just keeping it concise! When dj'ing or working on remixes I'm always trying to find intentional or unintentional references hidden within the layers of the track that help tell me where it wants to go (or what to play next) and this track was immediately screaming for some stretched out Philly disco vibes, so I did my best to summon Gamble & Huff and take it there. I can't wait to properly try it out on a dance floor!"

Benjamin Woods, creating under the name Bosq, has been tirelessly exploring the intersections of Afro-Latin music with Disco, Funk, Reggae, House and Hip Hop for years. He first gained notoriety as one half of the Whiskey Barons, churning out a continuous stream of edits and remixes, as well as being the sole producer on the now highly sought after, out of print Whiskey Barons x Bastard Jazz releases (Tumbao EP & Enferma Nocturna). His unofficial mixes led to a slew of official remix work for heavy hitters like Fania Records, Orchestre Poly Rhythmo de Cotonou, Poolside, Nickodemus, and many more. He now works his magic on afrobeat warriors Atomga’s single “Zenpocalypse”, bringing the dancefloor to Africa with an Afro-Disco slammer that will rock fans worldwide.

Worldwide Award winners First Word Records are pleased to welcome back Souleance; a duo that have been releasing music with us for a decade now, and triumphantly returning to the fold with some brand new music for 2020.

Expanding on the original Normand-Parisian super-duo of Fulgeance and Soulist, the Souleance crew now includes Vincent Choquet on synths and Guillaume Rossel on drums as part of their live outfit. Whilst sonically their style remains unchanged, the formation into a full band sees the Souleance sound become bigger, more realised and more formidable than ever.

The title track 'Les Mouches' sets off the EP in a playful disco manner - a chugging bassline, assorted synthesisers, disco claps and a four-to-the-floor drum track, inspired by the likes of Larry Levan and Candido. Meaning "flies", Les Mouches was a legendary Manhattan club that existed around the era of Studio 54, and was infamously a hangout spot for Imelda Marcos. The club itself was named after a play by Jean-Paul Sartre.
