Long serving Cadenza recording artist, Mirko Loko, has always worn his Detroit musical influences on his sleeve, counting pioneer Carl Craig as his mentor, and having worked with the likes of Derrick May and Stacey Pullen in the studio.  And on Daybreak, Mirko fully indulges in the one genre that seems never to get tarnished, the mechanical and industrial beats working off the deep and soulful strings and melancholic pads, a true hallmark of the classic sounds of the Motor City.

Originally released on Outpost Recordings, the label run by Scottish techno don, Funk D’Void, the masterful Original Mix from Takuya Yamashita gets three new versions from Mirko.  Takuya, a techno artist from Kobe, Japan has already sparkled on labels like Biotech and Espai, and in his Original version we have a driving and energetic piece of classic techno.  Mirko remains ever faithful to the melody and sounds of the original, providing a full beats re-rub on the ‘Mūn version’, and an alternate ‘Taiyō version’ that’s more urgent, with its broken beat.  The digital only ‘Kanjō no’ version dispenses of a backbeat entirely, creating a remix that forever teases with it’s percussive elements, building up great anticipation throughout.

As Cadenza continues to celebrate its 10th year as a label, it takes delight in backing great music from its artists and associates, and this release is another curveball in the label’s eclectic catalogue.

Back with a powerfully elegant 3-track EP on Exit Strategy, the talented Denis Horvat showcases his production skills that will never cease to amaze us. 'Bohm' and 'Guilty Pleasure' are both interesting and brilliant, however, we've chosen to premiere 'Paradon' - it brings back those wild and mighty club moments that are always a fond memory.

The painting was somewhat distorted by the fragmented nature of his head from last summer. It had been a tough year but little by little he had been able to piece together what needed to be drawn from memory in order to begin his healing. It would always take for him to feel more like himself again but he had never particularly expected to find himself sat upon a beach painting out pictures of his problems from another life far away. This was supposed to be meditative rather than pensive, happy not sad. 

Benjamin Frohlich has invited some of his favourite producers to contribute to a remixes EP which features appearances from the likes of Chinaski and Aera. It is I:Cube however, who steals the show.

Remixes From Memory

Magnitude Recordings was started by Francesco Pico in 2005. The label quickly the gained international recognition in the tech house- and progressive house scenes, working with artists such as Ferreck Dawn, Malbetrieb, Alessandro Diga, Harold Heath, Camiel Daamen, Andreas Bergmann and Eelke Kleijn (as part of the Backroom Boyz, a joined effort between Francesco and Eelke) to name a few.

With Francesco Pico moving on to be a household name in the progressive house scene, working for labels such as Audio Therapy (Dave Seaman's imprint) and Global Underground, and releasing full length artist albums on Manual Music and Outside The Box Music, he struggled to find the time to run Magnitude Recordings and so the label ended in 2011.

But now, after a 7 year hiatus, Magnitude Recordings is making it's comeback into the scene as an official Manual Music sister label. And what better way to re-start the label than with a release by the label founder himself!

The industry veteran has truly outdone himself here with two pieces what just might be amongst his strongest productions to date. That trademark 'Pico sound' really shines thru here on both the title track 'Taming Da Echoes'- as well as on 'Bugs Jump Out Of The Water'. A vibe hard to define in words, somehow cleverly combining the best elements of progressive- and tech house creating a sound which would directly be recognized as being a Francesco Pico production.

To properly propel the Magnitude label name back up there where it belongs we've asked not one, but two heavyweight names to rework Francesco's tracks. First up it's man-of-the-moment Kasper Koman who reworks the title track. The Dutchman has had a great year so far which started off with the release of 'Iota' on MNL only to be followed shortly by his top 10 hit 'Ground' on Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank label. That Kasper has the midas touch at the moment is proved once again with this remix for 'Taming Da Echoes'. A truly flawless piece of progressive house music!

Exclusive Pablo Fierro 'Timanfaya'

Cradled with rhythm Canary Island born and currently in Madrid living DJ and producer  Pablo Fierro is a mainstay of the rather percussively influenced music in the electronic music scene. With releases on Innervisions' renowned 'Secret Weapons' compilation the bustling artists has left quite an impression and paved the way for following releases on Suol or RISE. For the latter Pablo remixed Floyd Lavine's track 'Masala', which became an instant summer anthem in 2017. This year Pablo continues his personal rise with his 'Timanfaya EP' on Munich based label Compost. The EP's title track starts Pablo-style, meaning the Madrilenian builds up the track with strong and various percussions preparing the momentum when a Mediterranean influenced synth-melody makes its first appearance and in the following is accompanied by a second one that marks the track's peak. Shortly before the release of Pablo Fierro's EP Torture the Artist had the chance to catch up and speak to the artist about his connection to the 'Timanfaya National Park', his move to Madrid and other topics.

Premiere: Ben Böhmer - Mondfinsternis (Kalipo Remix) [Keller]

Straight out of coastal Bordeaux, Laroze is back on Flux with another
collection of floor-focussed cuts. Joining him on remix duties this time is fellow Frenchman Kosme. 

Following on from FLUX002, Laroze’s style is typically packed with energy and verve, using the classic US house framework as a launch-pad to bring his sound to contemporary dance-floors across Europe.

The B-side, Kosme’s remix of You Better Give Up (Romy’s Floor Version) flips the original completely on its head, where glistening synth undulations drive the track forward with newly defined purpose. An extended break-down sees Kosme drop in nostalgic break-beats and a sombre string arrangement, before rolling back in. 

FLUX003 lands Spring 2018, 180 gram limited edition vinyl (no digital)with cover artwork from Laura Zhang.
