In early 2016 CSX began transmitting PL tone M7 (250.3Hz) on its dispatcher base stations around Richmond, VA. This recording has the raw transmission of the HG desk followed by the same sample with the PL tone filtered; it's a night and day difference in listenability. I don't know why they did this, but it sounds awful on carrier squelch radios, which 99.99999% of railroad radios are.
