Great for summertime (look at the colors of the art, am I right?). But ya, we are really proud of this one, cuz it feels like the feeling we get from old French Fidgety Bloggy, etc, but sounds like 2019 music. So hey! “Jiffy” is a song by Botnek, but the story doesn’t end there - in come the remixes! Contest winners Bor &Mar, Eleganto and MNNR & Giant really strut their stuff on each of these three (3) tracks.

What’s up?

It’s time for the mom and dad of WFHQ to step up for the first release of the new year, and between you and I, our new year’s resolution was to really, really work on our song titles.  Truly, madly, and deeply capturing the essence of the song.  And honestly pushing ourselves creatively to get to that next level. So to start, let me explain the naming of our newest single “Wassup”.

You see, we sampled a guy saying “what’s up?”, and we thought, “you know what’s a really good title for this song?”

“Wassup?”

“Yeah let’s call this one ‘Wassup’.  Because people will know it’s that song when they hear him say “wassup’”

Also there’s another song called “On Planet Z” but it doesn’t have any samples at all.  I don’t even know why it’s called that.

OK, It’s time to introduce you guys to: Gamma Jack.  

For a year or two now we’ve had this song, and up until recently it went by the name “SUMMER POOL TECH HOUSE JAM.mp3”.  Seriously.  We would love to play it, and to our surprise people kept asking us “hey dummies what’s that song with the trumpets and all the fun sounds?”.  

“Gamma Jack.” we would say.

“Who is that?”

You see, Gamma Jack is in every one of us.  He is the spirit and energy that is released on a summer’s day when a crisp groove hits your ears, and a cool beverage hits your lips.  Gamma Jack is the coolest of cool.  He knows no pretension, or fear, and lives by the simple mantra that “fun, is good.”  

So in a sense, this song, wasn’t even made by us.  Well… technically, yes, we did make it, BUT we like to think it was the spirit of Gamma Jack flowing through us, that birthed this cool pool jam.  

No bleeps or bloops or badass basslines here, just the sweet, sultry, summery sounds of Gamma Jack. Enjoy responsibly.

OK so,

We made a song with GIANT. The hook is pretty silly, but the groove is no joke. But instead of explain to you that it’s a dance track with drums and rhythms and etc etc, we wrote a poem.

Here is that poem:

Ah, Montreal in the summer.  For those that know, we don’t have to explain.  But if you’ve never experienced it, the city at that time of year comes alive.  Since the winters are so brutal, when it gets nice and sizzlin’ hot out, It’s like every human does whatever they normally do, but outside.  Eating outside, playing music outside, (peeing outside), …what was that? Oh yes, and even drum circles outside.

The Tam-tams.  

“The what?”

Yep, google it, mister.  A city sanctioned, completely legal gathering, at the base of Mount Royal, where people do questionably legal activities.  Get your mind out of the gutter man, I’m talking about smacking the tubs, smoking the bins, banging the drums, whatever you call it.  That, and ice cold refreshments and big green silly cigs.  You get the picture? It’s a classic good time.

Us two Botnek boys thrived in that environment.  Coming from Halifax - the land of Irish jigs - we heard a very new style of music that we'd never heard before, and it completely influenced our sound early on.  Just take a scroll back through our discography to around 2011-2012 (“Jerpa”? ring any bells?).  The sounds of that drum circle (plus any other libations available) was the soundtrack to our lives for those summers, and this song is a nostalgic celebration of our love for the city.

Gordon Huntley & Erick Muise joined forces as Botnek back in 2008 in Halifax, Nova Scotia through a shared love for house music. With a shortage of inspiration in the form of nightclubs and generally an unlikely scene for the quiet seaside Canadian town, Gordon & Erick bonded over Ableton tips, dance music blogs and late night radio shows on BBC Radio 1. Soon after forming a strong friendship through similar musical interests, the project was formed, which led to a string of releases with a number of up & coming fidget & electro house labels. The guys landed a couple of key remix opportunities from this early buzz around the project from names including Crookers, AC Slater, Felix Cartal & Jack Beats. In this first chapter of their careers, the duo toured first in Europe and Asia, in clubs such as Fabric, Sub Club, and Bootshaus.

It wasn't much longer until Dim Mak Records & Steve Aoki were interested in signing the project to the label. From the signing to Dim Mak came a number of singles & EPs, tours in America, and their viral edit of Martin Garrix’s hit “Animals”. The duo gained far more attention from this than ever expected, and started the next chapter in their career. Shifting styles into more main stage ready Electro House and Big Room, the duo began touring internationally. More singles for Dim Mak followed, along with another viral remix.  This time for The Chainsmokers' “#SELFIE”, which really put Botnek on the map. Collaborations with Zedd, 3lau, Loudpvck & Snails soon followed as well as an even heavier touring schedule. Since then, Botnek have toured the globe in almost every continent, have played on some of the biggest festival stages in the world including Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival & more, and have done a Las Vegas residency with Steve Aoki.

Almost a decade later, in the summer of 2017, the Botnek boys reached a major turning point. The once dance music class clowns felt an urge to evolve their sound; to shift the project away from the festival Big Room sound, and back to the roots of the project.  After years of touring, both Gordon & Erick realized they had almost subconsciously stopped creating the kind of music that had originally fueled the formation of Botnek in the first place, all those years ago in Halifax. It was time for the next chapter in their careers and they decided to take a leap. They released a song called "Don't Need U" on their own independent label imprint World Famous Headquarters. The track had the quirky house sound they bonded over when they first met and shared such a deep love for. From there, the duo has released a number of tracks in this musical vein, each one a deeper dive back into the diverse & ever-expanding world of house music.

In 2018, Botnek decided to take things a step further with this World Famous Headquarters imprint by launching a monthly radioshow. They launched World Famous Radio in partnership with SiriusXM’s Insomniac Radio, as a sort of homage to the radio shows they first loved on BBC Radio 1. After fully realizing the amount of talent existing amongst their peers and the next generation of young producers, the guys opened up the doors of the World Famous Headquarters label to outside artists for the first time in the fall of 2018. The label's sound will consist of Botnek's filter of wacky house music inspired by those early fidget & electro house days Gordon & Erick are still so inspired by today.
