pol100 ‘Sepsis EP'

pol100 is an alias used by Italian producer Paolo Maiarelli. Maiarelli is originally from Ferrara, a small city located in the north of Italy. Inspired by the likes of Arca, Rabit and Lee Gamble among others, it has been four years since he started to create music under the pol100 moniker. During this period he developed, what he calls, a more personal sound that can be heard on his previous releases ‘ANOTHER FINE DAY’ and ‘PLAGUE EP’ released on respectively Elastica Records and Du Couer Records. His latest work ‘Sepsis EP’ will be released on Bound Centre and introduces us to a new chapter in Maiarelli’s work. The complex mix between Ambient-like audio engineering and break/bass heavy electronica is conceived from his research into the idea of sound over structure and is based on the four symptoms of septic shock. On basis of these four symptoms Maiarelli created a listening experience that transcends conventional forms of arrangement and sound design and forces the listener to take a deep dive into the concept and physical consequences of the disease.

April Bourne 'Ox-Eye EP'

March 23 marks the release date of ’Ox-Eye EP’, April Bourne’s debut on Bound Centre. Inspired by the UK and its diverse sounds like Grime, UK Funky and Garage Dutch born April Bourne started producing music a few years back. Ox-Eye marks his debut EP on Bound Centre after his promising first steps into the public with his track Crying In The Club which was featured on a compilation by Austrian label Ashida Park. His sound is best categorised as friendly sounding melodic ambient with the use of gated synths and minimalistic percussion he calls pitter-patter beats. The concept of the EP is based on the daisy or ox-eye as it is also called. Where nature is often smothered by synthetics and the rise of human technology, the daisy merges and thrives in these surroundings. This interplay between the organic and the synthetic symbolises April Bourne’s search for balance in his sound.

‘to be cherished (Side A)’ 

On the 16th of November, Evelyn Palace will release her album ‘to be cherished (Side A)’ on Bound Centre. As the title suggests ‘Side A’ is the first chapter in a very personal duology, with Side B following soon after. After 5 years of producing Evely Palace started to experiment with vocals and soon after she self-released her first two albums, ‘Centipede Castle’ (October, 2021) and Lilith (April, 2022).

With ‘to be cherished’ Evelyn shares a renewed version of herself. The entire album was written over a period of a year, with Side A being made last summer while recovering from heartbreak. This period of her life contains highs, lows, self-discovery, transformation and reflection. All this turmoil and newly found clarity is captured within these two chapters. The intergalactic-trap sound of her previous projects only partly remains, whilst influences from jungle, drum and bass and hip-hop are injected. In exploring her own sound Evelyn discovered a desire not to choose a single genre for Ms. Palace. What remains in the centre are ethereal vocals, celestial melodies and personal lyrics.

On the 27th of January, 2023 we welcome you to Side B of 'to be cherished' by Evelyn Palace. With this second part of her very personal duology, we have the honour to introduce a side of Evelyn that has remained mainly in the shadows. Ms. Palace was producing music well before becoming a vocalist and those in the know won't be surprised by the wide range of genres she makes. Only the most investigative listeners however will be aware that her true niche is ambient and scenic productions. Early examples of this preference can be heard on alter egos like Purity Princess. 

Evelyn likens Side A to a sunrise. It represents the cheerful, optimistic, and vibrant side of her persona. She made the first half of 'to be cherished' mostly in collaboration with other producers and rarely taped a vocal alone. Despite her departure from the intergalactic-trap sound from her previous albums, the same environment remains. This changes with Side B. Aside from one addition by another producer, this entire side was composed by Evelyn, in private and late at night. In her bed or the studio. It represents a sunset. Within these six songs, we find an effortless expression of the aforementioned through complex textures, ethereal melodies, and intimate spoken words. A side of Ms. Palace that we are thrilled to share with you all.

Victor Metske 'Effects of Haste'

And there we are. It was always our intention, us two remaining members of Bound Centre, to release new music whenever it felt right. As it turned out, this would take a while. And it might take a while again in the future. After a long period of wanting to check in and reconnect, it was our friend and latest collaborator Ms. Palace who dragged us out of our hibernation to hang out. After which we decided to release Victor Metske's long awaited (for those close to him) 'Effects of Haste'. In his own words:

"And here I am. I've spent the last few years learning a lot about myself. About my learned behaviours, systems that used to help me but are now in the way of my desire to change. My wish is to lovingly thank my past and say goodbye to old habits. It always takes me a while to figure anything out. I have lived with this EP for years now. It reminds me of all the things I have lost and all the things I have gained. I am happy to let go of these songs now. Hope you like them. Special thanks to Isa (Ms. Palace) for the inspiration"

Once a hyperactive soul lost at sea, surrounded by different sounds and scenes. Victor Metske has found a direction that perfectly mirrors his own restlessness and need for change while upholding the elements that he loved in the past. A form of dark festivity lingers between the notes and glitchy drum patterns to create a sense of homecoming.
 
In his own words:
I started working on these four tracks around the time Bound Centre started to come into the being it resembles today. Over the last year I kept on shaping them but the original concepts proved strong enough to stay aligned with my ongoing developments. Reason being, I think, that the beginning of Bound Centre was the beginning of me working with like-minded people and taking myself seriously as a musician. Instead of toning down the conceptual nature of my production style, in order to appease the audience I had been catering to up until this new beginning, I learned to embrace it. I learned from my new audience that this nature of production is my biggest strength. In listening back to these four tracks I hear a certain calm, a determination and a purpose.

Some things need no explanation. And somehow one of the hardest truths still does. There’s a lot of ways to help out these days and we felt we needed to pitch in and contribute in any way we can. Because change starts at your own doorstep we’ve decided to donate a part of our total revenue as a label, personal donations by our members and the revenue generated by this release to Nederland Wordt Beter. They are a local organisation that focusses on the education and the spreading of information about bigotry, diversity and other topics that need to be discussed and radically changed for the better.

On the 2nd of June Zurich based producer/visual artist Shayu will release her video project Morning Glory Through Bound Centre. She recently released her ‘All The Way Through’ EP on Coyote records and has more planned for the future. Shayu’s signature sound ranges from Grime like structures and sounds to a more clubby feel with intricate percussion and has been featured in the past on multiple platforms including Boiler Room, NTS Radio among others. 

For this project she collaborated with dancer Sam Dilkes for an impromptu improvisational dance on the streets of Dalston fueled by a combination of Shayu’s sounds and an unconventional surrounding. Shayu and Dilkes met in Shanghai, at the afterparty of a chinese brand that invited her to compose a soundtrack for them. It was at the party where she was intrigued by the way he moved. Dilkes trains at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance and is therefore not foreign to unconventional styles of music and experimental forms of improvisation. Shayu’s take on simplified/minimalistic melodies and Dilkes’ choice of movement complement each other through a form of awkwardness and spontaneity. Her choice to use the streets for the video also adds to the experience by not only being a backdrop but also for setting a specific mood that Dilkes uses in his choice of movement.
