Ladies and gentlemen, please assume your front row seats - GIANT is about to walk down the Box of Cats-walk again! This record is that BOC fashion you love, complete with shiny shoes and that fancy red dress. VIP entry and a bottle of beer to start! It didn't take this guy very long at all to whip up some new fire for us to jump on, did it?!

Running From Pain has a little bit of everything you can love about a record. Snappy percussion, toe-tappingly good bass and a lush vocal. GIANT has a knack for creating familiar sounds with a unique twist in his records, saturating his elements just the right amount. To put that into 'normal peoples' words, he's the one at the fashion show transforming those regular outfits into fabulous works of art – works of art that have even your most fashion-conscious aunt who’s watched The Devil Wears Prada 57 times going weak at the knees.

It only felt right getting a world class remix on it too! None other than Maximono jumped on this one to flip this on its head! Leaving his comfort zone and adding a touch of progressive house flavour to his flip, Maxi gets the anticipation of the breakdown just right before this thing belts back into an absolutely infectious groove! When he first heard the record, he knew this was the exact direction!

Super pumped about this one and having GIANT back twice in a matter of months. We think he looks pretty good walking down our runway!

GIANT - Running From Pain (BOC138)

Green Tree is here and he's here to stay. Like a bad smell some would say, but a smell you can't help but sniff. Its like parmesan. Absolutely delicious but kinda on the nose.

Well today he has dropped a whopper with cheese with Puppet On A String. A moody late night record with a mysterious vocal sets the tone for this one around a bumpy bassline and housey beat. Really vibing the feel of this one, we don't get too emotional here at BOC, but this one got us feeling a bit fuzzy.

What? Giant again! haha yes! We are loving his vibe and he's on this remix with some vibes club energy. Great use of the original sounds and a rolling bass really make this one a proper peaker. But keep those eyes peeled for our man Advent who's flying through the gates with his addition to the pack. Chunky and cheeky and clean. This has BOC written all over it!

Green Tree - Puppet On A String (GIANT Remix) (BOC139)

Badder, bigger, better than the rest. This month we have some fresh blood from a weapon producer that goes by the name of Martin Badder. We thought for sure his surname couldn't actually be Badder, but it is. Born bad, living bad. What a badman. One thing that isn't bad though is his new record, Like Woah.

Mr Badder mixes and blends the best parts of house and bass together to create a genre that sits right on the precipice. Funky hats and groovy vibes and abundant, but they’re mixed with enough nasty bass to shake your grandpa’s hearing aids clean out. Martin goes wild with the FM synthesis on this one (which is just a fancy way of saying 'wob wob'), injecting dark energy into the track and taking it from the afterparty all the way home to your eyelids, whether they’re closed or not :P

Stoked to have Mr Badder join the crew here at BOC after being fans of the guy for quite some time!

1. What made you decide that you want to start producing?

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mom signed my up for Bollywood dance classes when I was little, so the love of dance has always been a part of me. I really began my journey with electronic music while I was a sophomore at UC Berkeley I was a wall flower business major and music was one of my only real outlets to show I could “fit in”. I was the guy on the aux cord every weekend until I taught myself how to Dj and ultimately began making music. It’s been such an incredible journey of self discovery so far.


2. Why did you pick this song of all songs to remix? Any special place in your heart for the Gorillaz? (I mean who doesn't love the Gorillaz?)

This has always been one of my favorite songs. When I was in music school at Icon in LA the Gorillaz headlined Outsidelands Fest (2017) a San Francisco based music festival. I ended up sneaking onto stage just in time to watch the Gorillaz perform this song live to a crowd of 100,000+ people. The song has never sounded the same and as a result was stuck in my head for weeks, months, years even. Fast forward to a few months ago when this bootleg was written I was at the peak of a new relationship that was healing so many old wounds. On Melancholy Hill was my top played song of 2019 shout out Spotify algorithmic playlists.  It all made sense it was the fastest I’d ever written a song.

4. Drop some wisdom, any advice to the producers just breaking out into the scene?

I was never a musician in the classical sense music theory is something I still battle with on a regular basis. What I will say is that somewhere along the way I’ve learned to trust my ear more than anything and it’s gotten me some really interesting results (not all of them have worked). So I suppose trust your ear, and make music every day. The results won’t always be a number a song or even an idea that you like. Trust the process and laugh at yourself ALL THE TIME. 


5. Tell us more about Boiz House and what you got going on!

I get giddy even as I write this but Boiz House is literally my everything. I’ve been lucky enough to form a live music dj boy band with my best friends from college and there truly is no other feeling in the world like it. We’ve traveled across most of the west coast and played on some of the biggest stages at the biggest festivals out here together playing music that we’ve been working on in our living room. It’s been a truly joyful and testing experience as an Artist to be thrown into the pits (or backyard pool) of producing for weeks on end with some of your harshest critics but at the end of the day having the time of our life has always been essential to our journey.  If you haven’t heard of Boiz House you definitely will be soon! We start our West Coast Party Tour in Seattle this February so you might catch us in your neighborhood! Stay tuned because we boiz love house, bass, funk, jazz, disco, breaks, hip-hop & everything in between. You’re in for a boogie like no other. 


6. Whats one of your favorite production tips that when you learned it, totally changed the game for you?

OKNF Spotlight Series: Gorillaz - On Melancholy Hill (MNTRA Bootleg)

It's Friday and despite the fact we are locked in behind closed doors, pining for a party, we feel it is our duty to ensure the party flavours continute. That is why we are going out of our way to find exciting new 4x4 music from which we can bring the party atmosphere into our homes for the time being. We also feel that during this time we shall be finding an influx of producers finally nailing that mixdown they have been working or for ages, or finally finding a bit of time to finish that collab they have been sitting on. 

In times like these, we turn to some of the most reliable producers and record labels about, to bring us fresh, vibrant creations, which today sees us take a peek at House Of Hustle, a label we have featured numerous times on this platform, which kind of proves our point from the off. We are going to take a very specific at their latest compilation project, which takes the title 'Miami Hustle 2020'. 

The line up is absolutely jam-packed with stars, as we see them an unveil a tracklist which features Dylaw, Nick Steffan, Burn1, Takshak, KnightBlock, OldBass and many many more across ten worldy originals. From start to finish, the project delivers innovative and punch-driven house music, with a number of party starting anthems being laced throughout. 

We have been given the absolute pleasure of getting involved with the release campaign for this one, bringing up an official premiere of track nine, as Not The Father links up with Jesse Angelis for 'Whatcha Gon Do'. The track itself is a fantastic amalgamation of moogy acidic themes with techy rhythms and smooth house flavours, which to us seems like the perfect party starter recipe. Wongo - D.A.D (Dance All Day) (AVAA REMIX)

Up first is the deftly-produced 'Wancho Body' with an infectious groove driven by rotating rhythms and an undulating bass. Track 2 speaks for itself, as indeed, it's 'All U Need' to be seduced onto the dance floor. So I gotta ask. May I have this dance?
