Here is an example of the drum sounds as captured in my studio.  This is recorded with only outboard processing and EQ on my SSL Origin console.  All preamps used were the onboard SSL PureDrive pres.   No samples added.  One limiter plug in on the mix that was captured back into ProTools.

Outboard processing:
1.) Pair of DBX 160 A’s for parallel drum crush
2.) Pair of DBX 530 EQ’s to tame the cymbals in the crush bus
3.) Empirical Labs Distressor on Kick In
4.) Empirical Labs Distressor on Snare Top
5.) Early 90’s Yamaha SPX 90 with 1 second reverb for ambience on overheads and rooms
6.) Yamaha EAD10 on the Room Reverb setting as a stand-in for room mics (my drum room is very small so this is how I get a substitute for a larger drum room)
7.) Manley Massive Passive (owned by Jerry Finn) on master bus adding high and low shelves
8.) SSL 4000 bus compressor 
9.) Phab Filter Limiter

Recorded my Ludwig Classic Maple 3 piece kit, using ProTools HDX and the AVID HD/IO 16x16 Analog converters
-Matt Halpern signature Pearl Snare
-Zildjian A Custom Cymbals
-Remo coated on the toms
-Evans Heavyweight Dry on snare
-Sm57 snare top, Beta57 snare bottom
-MD421-ii’s on Toms and kick in
-Shure Beta 52 on kick out
-AT2050’s on cardioid setting for overheads
-Mojave audio MA100 tube condensor mic on hats
-Shure SM81 on ride
