There are songs that you write — and then there are songs that write you.
I wrote this one ten years ago, when the world felt hollow and quiet after my friend Paul lost his fight with cancer. The grief was heavy, shapeless — it filled every room, every silence, every night sky above the farm where I had my studio.

About a month later, my friend Carey showed up — wild-hearted, fearless, the kind of person who could make broken glass look like stardust. She dragged me back into the world, back onto my motorcycle, back into the sunlight. She wanted me to finish the song — to feel again.

That night, I begged her to stay. But Carey was always chasing the next horizon.
On her way home, she hit a deer — gone in an instant, still burning at a hundred miles an hour.

After that, I couldn’t touch the song. It became a wound I didn’t want to reopen — a ghost I didn’t want to hear sing.

But grief doesn’t fade; it just finds new corners of the heart to live in. And as the world keeps showing us pain, loss, and beauty in equal measure, I knew it was time.

This song isn’t just about death — it’s about love that’s too big to disappear.
It’s about the echoes we keep, the laughter we still hear, the people who never really leave.
