Stede laughs. Honest to god giggles into his wine glass at the absurdity of it. Surely one can’t just book a couple’s therapist with a complete stranger. He hits the reply button before he can think about it.

In the middle of a school trip group of fluorescent-vested children is the most bizarre man Ed has ever seen.

He’s average height and average build, but that’s where the averageness stops.

He’s dressed in a bright turquoise suit with a white shirt, slightly open at the neck to reveal a gold cravat. The outfit is topped by an impressive head of perfectly coiffed golden curls. The blue and the gold and the overall ‘rectangleyness’ of the man make Ed think of a Rothko painting.
