My name’s Jared and I was 17,
Back in high school’s where I set the scene
I lived a normal life with mom and pop,
But when I got in an accident, my life just stopped
The doctor prescribed me lots of meds
And the opium especially got to my head
And when I got out I wasn’t clean
I was looking for a needle, If you know what I mean 
Hanging with boys from 9 to 5,
Opium was really takin’ over my life
‘Til one night, to my alarm,
My dad caught me with a needle in my arm
My folks then shipped me off to rehab
And it was hard to resist that deadly trap
But days turned to months and months into years
And now I’m 27 and I’ve conquered all my fears.


The Corrupt
You don’t care about the people, just their pills
To you, they’re just a bunch of dollar bills
Too bad you got caught trying to fund your next vacation
When your office was a perfect OSHA violation
Too bad you weren’t happy with your collect
Instead got caught selling 900 percocet
I’m sorry, guy, but that’s really unprofessional
I didn’t realize it was that hard to be ethical
You’re not the only one though, there’s plenty to blame.
Like Dr. Brizer sold prescriptions under fake names.
Dr. MacKay, looking for a rich deposit,
100 patients a day, max profit
But enough about the individuals, let’s look at the whole,
The industry behind this, the ones in control
Pharmacies are pressuring physicians to sell opioids
Forcing patients to buy pills that fill the void

Who believes that they’re helping their karma
By sending doctors to give wrong information
Talking down opioids in all locations
I’d be pretty angry if my doctor was bought
But I guess all that matters is if he got his 5th yacht


The Visible Effects
It all started back in 1998
when opium was sold at a higher rate
Companies assured their product didn’t cause abuse
now over 10% will turn to misuse
It’s being pumped into the lives of the young and the old
And in 2017 deaths went up tenfold
This problem’s real, you know what I mean?
When kids are mixing Sprite together with codeine
Prince overdosed, opiates to blame
Tom Petty accidentally did the same thing again
Fentanyl put Mac Miller to sleep
Fans cried out when they heard ‘bout Lil Peep
You look up to ‘em, haven’t the idols shown you what’s the obstacle?
Drank won't help, it put Wayne in the hospital
Opioids should numb, why they cause so much pain?
as they travel through the nation as a ball of flame,
igniting all these names, ones we love affected all the same,
prescriptions called to blame
