Hospital, 2012.

This work was used as part of a group exhibition in 2012 at the Nunnery Gallery in East London. Responding to the idea of the 'Panopticon', Jeremy Bentham's victorian prison design, myself and three other artists collaborated to have our individual work interact with one another in the space so that nothing would clash, but instead merge.

From Sound art installations and performances, I wrote pieces that I considered more musical and rhythmic than anything else that I had made before. The work was originally written and performed solo using multiple effects pedals on guitars and synthesizers that were all connected into a loop pedal so that the instruments could be built up and layered. I have been recording these instrumentals in Logic Pro, controlling the sounds more within the mix, and also using different effects.

Being a musician and having been in bands I wanted to create work that could have a visual aid, so I used edited footage of G.W. Pabst's 1929 film 'Pandora's Box'. By writing these tracks with certain ideas over how they would sound, the music was to suit the film nicely, playing on certain emotions and actions of the characters and within specific scenes.

As Sound Designer and thus in creative control with the sound, I exchanged ideas with the director before carrying out my own ideas on creating soundscapes for characters and sound effects. The idea being that these sounds were to play when certain characters appeared on stage, triggered by myself using Q-Lab software.

Clip of recording for Wimbledon College of Art Interim Degree Show, January 2013. Four recordings have been taken of an empty room, mixed together, then divided up with two recordings cut at 500Hz and only using the frequencies below that divide, and the same with the other recordings for 100Hz and everything above.
