Dutch DJ and producer Olivier Boogie has been doing his thing in Amsterdam, largely without credit, for the best part of a decade. He's previously released both original productions and re-edits, with two contributions to a split Lumberjacks In Hell release back in 2012 standing out. Here he returns - at long last - with an edit EP of his own for Whiskey Disco. There's naturally much to admire, from the soaring strings, undulating bass and disco-funk hustle of "Got To Have Loving" and jaunty Rodriguez re-rub "Can't Get Away" being particularly potent. He also delivers a dash of head-nodding boogie ("You Know Who"), and turns a little-known funk jam into a shuffling house hustler ("Lost In The Crowd").

Javi Frias is rapidly turning into one of Europe's most consistently on-point re-editors. Equally as inspired by funk, soul, disco, boogie and house, the Madrid-based producer has previously released on Street Edits, Giant Cuts, Editorial and Midnight Riot. Here he pops up on Hotbox Boogie with more floor-friendly reworks of overlooked or obscure boogie, street soul and disco-funk gems. While largely re-tooled to suit house dancefloors, Frias' edits pay due reverence to the source material, with cuts such as "Shining Bright" and the superbly soulful "The One" emphasizing the original tracks' killer grooves. Picking a standout track is tough given the high quality threshold throughout, but we're particularly enjoying the heavy, extra-percussive Dub of hands-aloft disco-boogie gem "The Way".

Twelve producers sat around a web-table and shared their passion for vinyl, deep-house and deep-disco music. After having worked for more than five months on this project’s compilation, “Diggin’ Disco Deep” hits back right on time for a special occasion, which is no other than the Record Store Day 2016. 
This 3 x 12’’ vinyl-exclusive package is a gathering of perfectly arranged and creative works, applying to various shades of house and nu-disco scene. Mind-sticking kits, elegant synths, fat basslines, beautiful vocals - all dressed with various disco elements - and a classic vinyl-mastering, all result in a solid and hearty LP!

After a short hiatus GC Records returns to turntables all over the globe with a brand new EP from Madrid's main man Javi Frias. Fresh from a release on Rahaan's Street Edits and with a release for Lumberjacks In Hell forthcoming, things are looking good for the Spaniard, and this tasty four tracker will do his reputation no harm. The set opens in punchy, peaking fashion with a dancefloor tribute to everyone's favourite red lemonade "Discotizer". Boasting the same sugar rush energy as the popular beverage, the cut powers into the mainroom on a solid 4/4 and filtered bassline, exploding into lights, colours and e numbers with funk guitars, squelchy moog and lively brass. One for hot nights under the mirror ball I feel. Brass and bass odyssey "Let's Shake Some Action" keeps the peaktime vibe alive, strutting its stuff at the uptempo crossroads between disco, funk and soul. Javi opts for a long and looped arrangement, locking us into the groove before the tripped out moog leads nicely into the female vocal - big stuff for the big DJ. B-side opener "Memories" rides a hard hitting disco groove deep into the depths of a filter before breaking through into the golden lights beyond. Javi certainly has an ear for a bassline, moving our hips while the sustained strings and emotive vocals keep the hands aloft. Last but not least, the Spaniard serves up "Do You Want My Sugar", a Chic styled disco funk bomb with plenty of breaks to go wild to.
