"We Gather Together", or "Prayer of Thanksgiving"

From my brand new album "Thirteen Tales".  The melody of this song is taken from the "Old Gaelic Lullaby".  Though a lullaby, the music is haunting and the words speak of the dangers outside.  I wrote the waltz-like interlude between verses to convey the image of a young girl skipping through a dark forest. Enjoy!

Sheet music available at www.bradjacobsenmusic.com. ~ A walk in the woods takes a sudden turn when you get that familiar feeling on the back of your neck that you’re being watched, even followed.  The occasional paw print, a quick glimpse of a pair of yellow eyes in the trees - It’s beautiful and frightening at the same time.  On the second day of recording this album in Sedona, AZ, I glanced out the window to see a dark mass of approaching storm clouds.  I instantly stopped playing and decided it was time to record “Wolf Trail”.  If you listen closely, just after the 1:45 mark in the song, you can hear the thunder that was passing through.

I've always wanted to go on a sleigh ride "over the river and through the woods", so in addition to the more sacred feelings of the holiday, this medley tosses in a bit of fun (my own personal sleigh ride) at the end.

A duet of my father (on bassoon) and myself (on piano).  Dedicated to those places where we go to find healing and peace.  This song is a journey to those special places.
