Hope

I've been toying with this one a lot, trying to find just the right resonance, but eventually you have to put it out there, and let go. Let go of a part of yourself you're ready to leave behind.

I was engulfed in that feeling of getting swept up into something that you know in your soul isn't right for you, but the story is too hard to pass up. Everything lines up and the signs are coming at you with no subtlety. When you know you shouldn't but you also know that you are going to do it anyway. Reality seems to break, the coincidences pile up in bizarre and unexpected ways, and you are just... in it. Along for the ride with yourself, watching from the back seat.

You get addicted to the chaos and the serendipity. You are going to pour your heart and soul into this, and let yourself run absolutely wild. You forget who you were before, and you don't want to remember because you know in your heart you would come crashing down. When you don't want it to end because the pain isn't just losing a partner, it's realizing that you left yourself behind. You tried to find your identity in the relationship instead of bringing it in with you.

When you look back, you don't understand why you acted the way you did, why you were so reckless and impulsive. Your mind is a mess -- a blur of realizations, experiences, and the constant drive to make sense of it all. There's that version of you from the back seat, smiling and shaking his head. They're with you now. They don't say "I told you so", they say "Welcome back, get some rest. You need it."

And you rest... and you dig. And you rest, and dig, and dig... and you find all the parts of you that you've been pushing down, that didn't fit the mold you were pressing yourself into. You can start to integrate, and you know who you are now more than you ever did. As you come back to yourself, you know it wasn't in vain. You've grown. You didn't imagine it, and you know there are more forces at work than you could have imagined.

And eventually, you start to move forward. Slowly at first, but gradually picking up momentum. You stop trying to love yourself, and start to love *being* yourself. You're on the other side. The world opens up. Roadblocks look like opportunities, and all the things you couldn't face become easier to handle. You get excited about life, and find hope, embrace your passions again. Everyone's there, they've been waiting for you. It's time to start again.
