With less the 2 weeks until "Drown Out" is released on Anticon and today celebrating 15 year's anniversary of the label in Los Angeles' Echoplex here is Music Concrete.

The title, a play on the term for found sound features Chris Alfaro (of Free The Robots) and Phil Nisco skateboarding. I find the noise of which is speed incarnate. The sidewalk's texture, ollies and grinds, all evocative of a controlled fall. The track is that, barely holding on, crashing along, but also unabashedly free.

Drown Out is released on September 17th

Hercules & Love Affair’s new album ‘The Feast Of The Broken Heart’ (released 26th May / pre-order here georiot.co/3mv7) sees another musical reinvention from ringmaster Andy Butler - delivered by an impeccable new line up.  

The ever-revolving collective led house music’s resurgence with club anthem ‘Blind’ in 2008 (Pitchfork’s record of the year), and 2014’s line up is another roll call of exceptionally talented vocalists. Brits nominee John Grant’s ability for translating hardship into elegance is writ large on ‘I Try To Talk To You’ and ‘Liberty’;  Rouge Mary, whose deep, spiritual voice is hewn from a gospel education; Belgian singer Gustaph whose counter tenor takes lead on the single ‘Do You Feel The Same?’ and smoky voiced virtuoso Krystle Warren, who was introduced to Butler by Grant, and sings the provocative ‘My Offence’.
 
Andy Butler comments: “I wanted nasty basslines, stormy, bleary-eyed sounds, fiery, rough, tough and ragged old school house productions that sounded almost techno. I didn’t want polite, I wanted aggressive.”

This aesthetic coupled with tales of emotional triumph makes for something tough yet soulful. Meaningful house music that IS pop music and can speak to the most musically adroit of tastes.

We don't know too much about Chinaski. He's been plying his trade for the ever-efficient Live at Robert Johnson label for a bit - making appearances on both compilations to date - but The Video Dead charts as his first solo flight on the imprint. And oof, is it a huggable affair. Fuelled by an infatuation with the VHS-style, visual aesthetics of the 1980s and old-school synths, its a project consistently enveloped in humid tones. Analogue-based deep house pumps trickle in-and-out of proto hip-hop and hypnotising jackers like a warm day back and forth between sauna and beach towel.

"Midnight Workout" is a harmonious voyage, planting super-sensitive synth harmonies into a vintage-pop bed with poise.

Catch the release on Live At Robert Johnson on July 6th 2015.

Albert’s Favourites are proud to present Hector Plimmer for the label's third release.

Eastern System is a real beat workout, with traces of Asia in its melodies, Africa in its rhythms and a stunning choral arrangement. This, layered with a charming and somewhat nostalgic main vocal, eventually turns into a hypnotic chant towards the close. A beautifully subdued track that still manages to deliver powerfully on the dancefloor.

We are also excited to announce that Hector will be releasing an album with us early 2017. Stay tuned!
