Tel Aviv’s Red Axes are one of the most exciting new acts in dance music, with rich sound that is musical, deep, trippy and organic, while remaining precise and lethally effective in the club. The range in their sound is impressive, their talent unmistakeable. They are one of our favourite artists of the year, and this latest record is one of their best yet.

Lead track 'Waiting for a Surprise’ builds around a mid-tempo disco bassline, with tough percussion, and rugged synth stabs, but it’s the eerie and unique sounding vocals of Brazilian collaborator Abrao that bring everything together. This one is a guaranteed bomb for building up, tearing down, peak time or chilling out… an outstanding track in every sense, the kind that force trainspotters to the DJ booth to discover what’s playing. Next up, ‘Hope’ kicks off with resonant, delayed toms, adding a haunting howl and synths before dropping into a wild, clanging, carnivalesque frenzy. It’s understated, but advanced, with an interesting arrangement that really opens up in the second half. Finally, 'The Metal Bender’ slows the tempo but ups the vibe into an elated, slow-burning space-disco anthem. Fantastic stuff!

Melbourne’s Kris Baha, fresh from launching his Power Station imprint, offers a stripped down remix of ‘Waiting for a Surprise,’ with a heavy, industrial-influenced groove that wanders into the deep, dark end of party strasse.

The crystal shone brightly under the spotlight of the glass chamber. It sad proudly at the end of the long hall, the museums prized piece. For decades they had waited to display such a delicate stone, one of such power, importance and might. Kings and queens throughout the ages had sought its presence amidst their collection of jewels but none had triumphed over its great defender, its ruler. It was bound to only one, and now in the place where he was born it sat perched in his corridor. The museum was open, the crystal was alive. 
Here is the latest release from the Honey Soundsystem camp in full. It features remixes from Mike Servito and Gunnar Haslam.

Moscoman’s original is extremely catchy, incorporating punchy claps and an almost psychedelic melody with a bassline that seamlessly brings all the parts together. Red Axes spin their own charm into ‘Fernandez’ creating a more dramatic affair crafted through powerful percussion yet holding onto the original playful melodies. In Moscoman’s own words “this one is super special, it’s a killer!"
 
From Berlin via Tel Aviv comes Moscoman. His music can be found on on Eskimo Recordings, ESP Institute, Correspondant and I'm a Cliché. Mosco's distinctive sound, which takes in elements of techno, new wave, house and the sounds of his native Middle East, has seen him quickly soar to prominence via his own production, his remix work, his DJing style and has now further been cemented by the success of his up and coming record label Disco Halal.
 
Red Axes is a project created by Tel Aviv based producers and DJs Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi who have been performing together for a long time but first released as Red Axes in 2009. Their music can be found on labels such as Correspondant, Hivern Discs and Throne Of Blood. More recently they have appeared on Crosstown Rebels as part of ’Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons Remixes From The Other Side’ following an EP on the label last year.

Ellen Allien - Not Alone

The cosmic-pop french producer Sofian Rouge comes back a few month after the release of his "Floating" mini-album with this remix EP on Global Warming Records. First, one of our favorite italian dj and producer Fabrizio Mammarella (head of Slow Motion Records and of mysterious disco-influenced electronic projects as Telespacio or Black Spuma) gave us a killer slow and dark version of « Starglazer », shaped for cold nights, obscure sets and sweaty clubs. Same track choice to remix for JMII, spanish producer discovered on John Talabot’s Hivern Discs crew. He brings us to his own universe with deep synths and analog house with this remix that sounds like a soundtrack to space-travel. And as bonus we have a dub version of Cylene 8 by Sofian himself.

The speech was a gimmick, a joke, a fraud. As if it would make any difference in the long run. As if they wouldn't be stood in this same spot next year listening to the old tired rhetoric which had been told time and time before. That's what politics was, is rather. Nothing had changed in decades, the wheel continued to spin and we the hamsters keep on running round and round in circles shouting to get off. One day we might finally pluck up the courage to hurl ourselves from the wheel and into the abyss, until then nothing will change. 

The Carry Nation are proteges of David Mancuso and Johnny Dynell, this month sees the pair release a new EP on Batty Bass Records. It is accompanied with some fine remixes, such as this from Justin Cudmore of The Bunker & Honey Soundsystem.
